Default S4 engine build thread, some cool pics

I have my "Stroker Crank FS thread that kind of turned into pics of my car build, and I think I was supposed to start a separate engine build thread per the venerable Mr. Mike Simard.

I will add to this thread with any and all pics I can find of things that are related to the engine.

This is when I was installing the studs that Simard Tool Co made which may help keep the bottom end together in the high (for stock block) horse power goals that I have set.

The fully surfaced block (you can see the white stuff - old coolant dust I guess - I worked hard when I cleaned the block to get it out. Most of it is gone:

Here is when I was mocking up the crank scraper system - lots of pieces, and this is an early version, so lots of grinding:

On this last picture above, I have changed to a screen for the center area, it seemed like a good idea. That one way screen stuff.

Some fitting issues with the scraper system:

I actually had to grind down the shoulder area for the smaller studs holes in the lower block:

I have a drilled crank, so I had the center mains (thrust bearing) grooved for the extra oil flow. 360 groove:

This is the drilled crank:

Q: That scraper system looks like there are a crap load of nuts, is there any concern for any of those 50 or more nuts coming loose and going into the pan. Should those little plates maybe be welded together? or must you assemble them on the block piece by piece for some reason?

Sure looks pretty

So anyway back to the assembly:

I got the crank in:

Kind of boring I guess here.

I still have quite a bit of fitting to do for the scraper. I took the teflon areas off so I could grind at the main structure

The fillets wouldn't even go past the main structure, so the teflon may have to be trimmed ALOT. We'll see. But to make sure thats tight I had to install the pistons:

Coated pistons, by swaintech, skirt and top. Pin bored and balanced (with the whole assembly when the crank was drilled) by taylor machine in whittier. Great guy - Jay at Taylor machine.

The rods were also resized by jay and arp rod bolts were installed (not in that order of course)

On the scraper, yes, tons of nuts. I am thinking about doing every one tight with threadlocker blue.

85 rods. As forged as we get with the 928 rods. Pre 88 they all look like that. After around then, they get very skinny looking.

And I guess I don't have one of the oil ring.

I like those Rods, do those just drop right in to a GT? (I dont LOVE the GT rods, but i guess they are better then 93 GTS rods, also never heard of rod issues with any S4 or GT)

Are those the press powder forged or forged from a chunk of steel ?

Oh and nice bottom end studs!

These pics have been put elsewhere, but this is the intake and fuel rails being mocked up so I know how to put them on permanently:

These are the block plates for where the distributors WOULD have been:

Because, I will be using Cayenne Turbo/CGT coils:

They will probably be run by this:

Unless I go with Autronic, which is nearly thrice as much when all done and finished, but with much better 928 support here in the states.

No fitting issues with any 928 block at all. I knew I was going to high HP and a 7k shiftpoint, so I wanted all the strength I could get. I don't know if they are the forged forged, or just the press powder forged. They are not cast, I know that.
