Default What does your race car weigh?

I'll start.

1281kg / 2818lbs without driver, fuel tank empty. Still a tad heavy, eh?

Wow! 2818lbs? I'm betting you've lightened yours up quite a bit. What year is it?

I have no way to weigh mine, unless I want to take it to work and use one of the truck scales. But in stock trim – wet with a driver, my 78 should be about 3500lbs.

Interesting when I look at my other vehicles:
1978 MGB roadster (1.8L) ~ 2300lbs to 2500lbs – almost a 1000 less than the 928 with half the horsepower.
2001 F-150 Supercrew XLT 4x4 (5.4L V8) comes in at about ~5600lbs/5700lbs and has about 100 horses more than my Shark.

There's no way your avatar should weigh that much. Need to lighten it up a lot.

Mine was 2610 with dot tires when I drove it to the scales. With race slicks it would be 2590 or so.

Read the 928 Forum issue about Mark's car and you'll see how he got all that weight out of there...it's all about the details...
As I'm digging into my car..I can see the miles of wire and extra stuff that can be taken out to save weight for a track dedicated car..heck...just that first layer of sound deadening is some heavy stuff...

yeah i saw one of the cars at sharktoberfest, it was as bare bones as it gets, but 900lbs is allot of weight. Seriously i love seeing this OLD car going right past GT3 cup cars.

If your serious about weight you need to start with a bare tub and make sure everything you add is necessary.

This is a very good point. Instead of the norm of removing parts from the car, do what Mark does and take it down to nothing and ADD only what you must. This is one of those, why didnt i think of that moments, which in the end seems so obvious. But its just a different way of looking at accomplishing the goal, you start in a different place but in the end accomplish more i would suspect.

Nice point
