Thumbs up NASCAR Poll

Seeing as the 928, like NASCARs, is a front-engined V8, I was wondering how many 928-ers are also NASCAR fans, and, if at all, to what degree. I am also wondering how many 928-ers are also NASCAR haters, and who's in between.

Mea culpa: I've been a NASCAR fan since around 1996, though I stepped away for a while when Dale Earnhardt died. I went to my first race in 2002, and I've been hooked ever since.

If you're a fan, please post your driver, too. I'm a big fan of Joe Gibbs Racing (though I'm not happy they're in Toyotas now), and especially Tony Stewart.

I went to my first Cup race at the old Riverside Raceway in Southern Cal in 1972. I also attended the '73 race at the old Ontario Motor Speedway and three races during the '90's at Fontana. I follow the season each year but I don't have a favorite driver. I seldom watch a whole race but I usually tape it in case something happens I wanna review. I think the recent addition of IRL and F1 drivers will make it really interesting over the next five years.

NASCAR "fan" doesn't quite cover it. "Junkie" is more like it I've been a die hard Rusty Wallace fan from the get-go. It was only coincidence his main sponsor just so happened to be my favorite beer. After he retired, I was in mourning for a couple of years. But now I'm back in it strong!! In fact I will be at the Fontana race tomorrow. HOO HOO !!!. As for drivers, mostly Harvick, Stewart, and JR, but I like 'em all.....................................except for that whiny, overblown, devil spawn Jeff "look at beautiful me" Gordon. BLEH!!!! BOO!! HISS!!

Back when "Junior" crashed and burned at Sears Point a couple of years ago he was quoted as saying something like "I felt like my father was riding with me."

My thought was yeah - that's probably who put you into the wall.

I started watching last year for Montoya (before that, would catch a race here and there just to see whats going on).

Now with Villeneuve, Franchitti, and Hornish it could be an interesting season.

American LeMans Series!

Everything else is spec racing. ALMS is the only series that promotes innovation and advanced technologies, instead of penalizing it. Oh yeah, and the Porsche RS Spyder races there.

What got me hooked was seeing a race in person. I've been to my share of other auto racing events (not F1 yet, though..., and I still dream of one day attending Le Mans) but attending a NASCAR race is a wholly (and holy) unique experience. I'll be at the Vegas race next Sunday... with my cooler full of cheap American beer (I normally drink Czechvar, etc) and my Tony Stewart jacket. It will be one of the best days of the year! Guaranteed! It's just so much damn fun. For the last 6 years, I've gone to at least one of the Atlanta races... a big group of my college buddies and I camp out at the track overnight in an RV, and get stoopid drunk, hanging out with all the NASCAR groupies. The details of the stories are not appropriate for this "forum."

Both myself & my other half both love NASCAR , never managed yet to get to a race when we have been in the USA but have watched teams testing at both Daytona & Talladega.
Favorite driver- Jeff Gordan even though I am a MOPAR man .
All-time favorite - Richard Petty , I own a '66 Plymouth Belvedere ,( his winningest car).
Also lucky enough to 'crew' on the K & K insurance Daytona when it came over to the UK for the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

NASCAR IMO is the absolute worst racing there is, but I must be wrong becasue there are millions of fans out there... and some of them are even halfway intelligent. It used to be that the typical NASCAR fan was a little inbred, missing a few teef, and are pretty much drunk all their waking hours, but that's starting to change (they now start drinking after breakfast).

I'm really surprised that F1 isn't more popular here in the states. Now with Schumacher gone it's a new day and you've got a few stellar drivers. The course they drive are, well... gorgeous! Even if it was just Monaco and The ring, i'd still watch.

You know... pictures speak louder than words. Which would you rather see?
