I'm with Andrew, nascrap is the WWF on wheels. I'm not saying the drivers aren't talented because they have proven it when they get in a real race car...say at Sebring or the Rolex 24. I have tried, been to several races and was actually watching Daytona when Earnhardt died. But it's all about "rubbin's racin'" and then people refer to "the number 8 car and the 27 car." I like it when the drivers earn the number. When a so-called Toyota Camry is identical to a so-called Ford Fusion, what's the point of even pretending? It's a total spec series and should be called as such. Even the Grand Am series just isn't right, and those DP cars are boring, even if the racing is pretty good.

ALMS and F1 all the way, with a huge nod to WRC and A1GP, man I wish the old Speedvision was still around.

I think it helps to have someone to root for. I never watched a NASCAR race until a local guy from my town (Carl Edwards) started running in the Busch series and then moved on to the Cup races. I have watched regularly since then.

I still prefer watching ALMS races and F1, but when you have a connection with one of the drivers it makes it more exciting.

I don't get these types of arguements. In my opinion racing is racing; I enjoy it whether it's F1, NASCAR, Offroad or drag strip. For me it's just about the contest. I couldn't care less about the politics of the constuctors. It's the two guys in two cars trying to find the better line to the quickest lap that is exciting.

I also like boxing, Pro's or amatuers. And even though the Pro could kill the amateur it doesn't lessen the enjoyment of two amateurs going at it.

OK, now we can go to OT.

+1

I don't like what NASCAR has become. I used to love it, back in the day, when the cars that raced
could be bought at the dealers.(RWD V8's)

IMHO it has become not much more that a spec series and everyone waiting for "the big one"

I watch F1, ALM, Austrailian V8 supercars, follow WRC.

I actually like the NASCAR road races and I'll catch the superspeedway events. Other than that I'm not terribly interested.

The COT has not turned NASCAR into a spec race. If you watched the Daytona 500, you saw a totally different race than in years past. No more is it a giant pack of cars all humming along like a bolus at 200 mph waiting for the big one. There were something like 40 lead changes and tons of passing.

And this isn't OT! 928s & NASCARs are front engined, high HP, performance-minded V8s. They have more in common than any other Porsche as compared to NASCARs. Plus the 928 is considered by some Porsche purists to be a read-headed step child, like NASCAR is by some racing purists.

Fontana race starts in a few minutes... check it out!

I love that. First time I heard the talking heads refer to it like that, I thought what the...?!!? Tube frame, tiny brakes, steel wheels and a great big pushrod V8. When was yesterday? I'm sorry but drafting around in a train even with 40 lead changes just can't beat limit braking, diving inside, doing an outside-in, running in the grass, bounding over the curbs, thunderous shifting, ***** in the throat pass, while keeping your wheels just inches from touching. Incredible.

In case anyone is curious how this stacks up to past races:

2008 - 15 leaders with 42 lead changes (5th Daytona 500 since 1972 with over 40 lead changes)
2007 - 9 leaders with 13 lead changes
2006 - 18 leaders with 32 lead changes
2005 - 12 leaders with 22 lead changes
2004 - 10 leaders with 28 lead changes
2003 - 8 leaders with 11 lead changes
2002 - 12 leaders with 20 lead changes
2001 - 14 leaders with 49 lead changes
2000 - 7 leaders with 9 lead changes

So what? Only the last one counts. I just don't understand this logic.

Absolutely Love NASCAR!!!

It's only the 2nd biggest sport in America!!!
Tell you the truth, I'm just a friggin car junky! I'll watch F1, Cart, NASCAR, etc.
I love Muscle Cars, 928s, just about anything with 4 wheels.

Most who don't give a Rat's Arss about Nascar have never even been to an event. Reminds me of some of my car buddy's that look at me funny when I tell them I have a 928 and say "Man, get a real car, a mustang, or a Vette, or a Viper!" They've never been in one of my cars so they don't understand, they don't appreciate it. Doesn't bother me. Before I say something sucks, I usually try it first. I've been to just about EVERY kind of race there is. From Nascar to F1, SCCA, Cart/Indy. I like em all, just like NAAAASSSCAAR the best!!
