I have been collecting parts for a Intake refresh and motor mount job. Well thats what I started with. Now It's Motor mounts , Oil Pan gasket, Rack mounts. And the intake refurb keeps getting bigger too. Injector cleaning, powder coating misc bits and the (might as well do this while im in there list) keeps growing and growing. The problem is I can't seem to get motivated to start this monster project. I keep thinking about the warm summer ahead and how I'm going to miss all those weekend drives cuz my ride is up on stands. Im such a puss

I'm with you on this one. I have the intake refurb to do and at least a million little projects as well. I'm also planning to do a DE next month, so the clock is ticking.

The only way out is through. GO FOR IT!

Just my opinion. Make a plan and stick with it, being sure not to add to it. At work adding stuff is "beyond the scope of the project" and cannot be done. We can always find more to do and then the job seems bigger than it originally was. I say do the motor mounts, oil pan, and rack mounts. Then intake can be done after that job is complete. Or vice versa. That way it seems smaller.

I'm there too. Just finished a bunch of minor work on the shifting and clutch, putting it back on the ground to drive for a few days and make sure that stuff is done right. Then I'll tackle the motor mounts in a week or so...several listers recommended I take it in small chunks and they were right. Then I have to refresh the intake, replace fuel lines and on and on...

Whenever I don't feel like working on my car, I just force myself into the garage. Once I am working, it's hard to stop, so it's just the inertia of getting into the garage.

Right now, I just have a lot of odds and ends. A new stereo install, replacing the charcoal canister y-pipe and washer filler neck, disabling the alarm, getting the passenger side window working, reconditioning leather and thorough cleaning. The motivation is my parents coming in April. Last year, instead of taking my dad for a spin I ended up making him help me do a TB job and cam timing. This year, I want everything to be just right since he's a huge fan of the 928 and I know he'd like to drive it.

+1 Go out to the garage. Sit in the car. Clean/arrange tools. I've had the equivalent of writer's block for working on the 928 several times. Getting out in the garage is 1/2 the battle. Once you get past that mental block, things will start moving more easily. Put a radio out there, too. Music helps.

I try to make sure that I have at least one 928 to drive every week. Last weekend was the first time in a long time that I did not drive a 928 but that was due to inclement weather. Driving one is all the motivation I need to work on the others

Very true. I do have my son coming to visit for spring break. Maybe i will start by cleaning the garage then doing the lower end first. I wont start with the intake until after he is gone so I can take him for a ride.

I found this to be the case when I started with the timing belt/water pump on my 84S. Soon I was putting in new cams, possibly rebuilding the heads or even the whole engine. Before I knew it, I wouldn't be driving my car for months.

I think RngTrtl said it, you have to have a plan and stick to it. Otherwise, things get out of hand and it can be months before you complete the work. I also have found that the more things you do WYAIT, the more possibility of problems when you are finished.

I enjoy working on my car; however, I love driving it even more.

Try 5-6 months of winter when you can't drive the car for motivation...........at the end of Feb it'll be a long long time since her exhaust pipes have spoken. One of the main reasons we have looking at a second home (yes in Texas) is to extend the 'sport car' driving season.

I had put the same thing off for 2 years, Flyingdog and I were just takling this weekend about "WYAIT" things to do and I am going to do the tensioning pads since I am replacing the cam covers. In our discussion we did talk about doing the motor mounts since you do have a lot off the top of the engine allowing for the added room needed to lift the engine but I just had the alliignment done that will wait for another time since you have to drop the engine crossmember/steering.

Good luck, plan a day and get some friends over to lend a hand and let the fun begin.

+1 on this. Treat it as two separate tasks. Each task ought to take a couple weekends tops, and you'll be ready for spring.

Piccardo, I think you are doing it the smart way, getting all of the parts over time. That way you have everything you need, even some overkill. Then when you sit down to do it, the time will fly by and you will be set.

I'm in the same boat, just picked up my shocks/Eibacs today and now I'm thinking new rotors and pads at the same time. Then I'll need to repaint my calipers, then spend more time under there cleaning.....oh hell, how about a sway bar and drop links.

See, it's never ending.
