The development of chain metallurgy and technology was one of the foundations of the industrial revolution...demand for bicycle chains that would last led to their use in industry and so on. Good motorcycle chains are expensive because EVERY pin has an O ring at each end to retain oil inside the roller. FWIW anyway.

When the motor for my GT was rebuilt by Dan Warner at Exotic Motorwerks, he suggested the "racing" chains as well. I'd never heard of them, but Dan had seen and heard of some OE chains breaking in 944S/968's. While he'd never heard of it happening in a 928 (more strain on the 4 banger chains?), it was cheap insurance and piece of mind, especially for the cost while we were in there anyway.
