i made one of these after some research on the net
http://www.m-20turbos.com/content/pr...?link=breather
. A competitor cut one open ....

and all it is, is 3 tubes in side one another with some filtering element. I did the same thing but put copper pot scrubbers in side. I added a drain at the bottom. Havent seen a drop or had an issue in the 3-4 years Ive had it on. havent touched it. That said though I dont track my car either. The thing ive found is that the key to the seperation is haveing large enough lines feeding it. This keeps the airflow velocity down and prevents the oil suspened in the air from making it very far. I have 1 inch line coming of my oil filler "neck", that has its own seperator i made, then 2, 1/2" line come off the pax side cam cover as you would on a stock S4. All thes lines join an continue on to the seperator i made above.

I made one for my 951 about a year and half ago from Home Depot parts. Cost about $25. It has collected about a cupful of gunk. I noticed that where it plugs into the intake that it has stopped the black oily build up in the throttle body.

This is not for blow by venting.

It's plumbed into the pressured oil line. I really don't know how it works. Maybe some of our 944 guys know more details

Ah, it would sit inline with an oil cooler to separate the entrained air.

Seems like a good plan.

I will be going with a daily engineering dry sump pump for scavenging which has an air/oil seperator on the end of it.

Though obviously this only works if you are going to a full drysump system.

Although foaming is the general term, in the pressure side it's usually called 'air entrainment'. Where the oil pickup is in wet sump engines, the oil is not pure oil as Tucker found out in the thirties. Although the volume of air in the pressure lines is quite small, it allows some separation as the pressure decreases through the circuit. As the pressure goes down, the volume of air becomes a problem near the end of the oil lube circuit. his is designed to minimize the air in the pressure side.
