My 79 has no mufflers, neither does the Cobra. My 81 only has a tiny flow through Borla that doesn't really do much.

This year I'm going with different headers to make the Cobra louder, and hopefully putting duels on the 81.

If you removed the rear muffler to replace with the RMB..then you aren't running with mufflers either. Those two things forward of the rear are resonators and are basically open boxes..so no real muffling there..Now try it with a X pipe and no cats.....That sound is sweet...

thanks Tom and Hacker.

figured they (resonators) had some sound deadning effect but maybe not..

i ran a t-bucket with a 427 and headers and straight pipes. ran a 350 in a rat rod with straight pipes off the heads. LOUD.. my factory 5 racing rep' ran with no mufflers and a 302, just used side pipes on that one.. come to think of it now i think Russ runs side pipes on that pile he has..
i'll ask him

just curious how the 928 motor sounds without mufflers.

i'll hack and see.. thanks..

I have headers and a single 3" Magnaflow straight through. It's not insanely loud.

I have cats, resonators, 2 1/2" pipes & a Magnaflow. The cats seem to have the biggest effect on sound reduction. . That said, it's not all that loud.

I have 928SP X-pipe, cats and RMB. Sounds great to my ears especially the overrun at higher RPM shifts.
