Market for 928 used parts?
I have been thinking about the idea of entering the 928 used autoparts scene, is there a market for such parts, what are the most desirable years? I have seen plenty of 928's 77 to 82 for under 4k, some with 5 speed trannies.
Thanks in advance.
I hope that all the jokes in the past remain as what it was jokes.
Sincerely
lart

Just in case anybody wants to know what this idiot thinks about us and the cars we drive, simply search for two key words:
Lart
928
He thinks everything is a joke. He is one as well. He also continues to sell parts and runs it as a business with no regard to being a sponsor of rennlist - only a member.
Enough said. Move along Lart. Continue on your destruction of the 944/951 forums.

I think it might be worth a try, there are always 928'ers out there looking for deals. There are a few folks out there that are fairly new to the 928 parts game and have cut out their niche. You may want to look at what some of these vendors do and see if you can try to maybe appeal to something you feel may not be adequately covered. Who knows? Best of luck to you!

Yes Lart it costs money to have a legal "junkyard" comply with all the rules and regulations , buy only cars with conformed ownership surrender that to the state. Pay taxes and have a resale license and business license (means property zoned for a junk yard) keep records and pay taxes .... That is particularily true in California. If you buy a car any car with the intent to make money selling it or the parts you are a dealer / junkyard.

You don't need to call me an idiot, I have never insulted you in this manner.

Pros:
1) Go back to the main page of Rennlist forums and look at the number of users currently browsing each section. The 928 section is always busy, usually having the most ppl on.
2) Our 928 culture here is heavyily DIY. We work on our cars and need a lot of parts.
3) Dead 928s are cheap and available, as they cost more to restore than to buy.
Cons:
1) Check Iceman's linky. 928 Intl is, I can attest personally, a VERY professional and well-run serious full-time business whose scale dwarfs that of the usual used-parts-guy-on-the-internet.
In order to compete with them you'd have to:
a> Undercut their prices by a large margin
b> Hang with their PERFECT level of customer service, their super-easy web-site, their truly gigantic computerized IN-STOCK inventory of the remains of hundreds of 928s, their lightning-fast shipping, and their top-notch phone support. How big of a full-time staff are you willing to hire, Lart?
2) One misstep and your name gets smeared all over teh intraweb. But you already know that. Despite the slightly more mature nature of the average 928er, it's still word-of-mouth = wildfire. Some ppl here already hate you...
3) Don't even think about posting ads here unless you have "Rennlist Small Business Sponsor" under your username.
Good luck!

To be honest, the demand for parts from 77-84 928's is very low.
Anyone who needs a 5-speed for this range of 928 will aim for a newer box from an 85 or newer since it's a better design. Auto's never really die in these, neither do the engines.

We do sell a lot of used parts and warranty them for one full year. Having been in business for almost 20 years there is a good chance we will be here a year from now which gives the warranty some meaning . So do you have a junkyard license ? they are just about impossible to get any more the NIMBYS have seen to that.

The one thing Lart has always been good at is stirring up the hornets nest while not crossing over the line himself. Read through his many 928 bashing threads and you will see what I am saying. I take in all in stride and laugh at those who get so fired up. I welcome a cheap source of good parts.
