Steve,
There are alot of parts and seals in this job. Is there a rebuild kit that comes with all of this stuff instead of buying it all seperately? Here is the list so far. Can you tell me if I am missing anything, or if any of these can be deleted from the list? If a rebuild kit is available, what parts are included below?

126.272.025.5 Sealing Ring
126.272.039.2 Boot

I stumbled across this kit last week while buying filters for our ML500. Hard to tell exactly what seals are in it, but a few of them look real familiar in the picture. Not bad for $73 if you're doing a complete tear-down, but it doesnt include the torque converter bearings, etc. At least there are kits out there.

Link is here: https://www.autohausaz.com/search/pr...l%20Seal%20Kit

This is a great thread - keep it going! I'm about to tear into my 87 tranny to stop it from leaking...

That kit looks good, but that place seems to good to be true. It has parts for every car ever made at dirt cheap prices. Autozone does too, but their quality is not the best. I figure I am not going to dive into this for hopefully another 20 years, so I am going to go with the best kit I can get. Steve Cattaneo and a local transmission rebuilder (a friend of mine) have both recommended buying parts from Transtar in the past. They have places all over the US. If these guys make their living rebuilding trannys, I guarantee they will not put sub-standard kits in there. The local Transtar here in St. louis has the 2 kits for 722.3 transmission in stock. One is just the seal/gasket kit and it is about $180. The next kit includes new frictions and it is about $250. I am going with this one.

That should cover it. I just need to check and see which Porsche specific gaskets I need to order since those will not be included in the basic Mercedes transmission kits. The Mercedes do not have the differential attached. Its tranny is in the front.

I also need Steve or someone to let me know if the pic of my B2 piston on this thread is the updated one or not. The dealer wants $175 for just the piston, but I think Pelican and some other Mercedes discount places have it in the $140 range.

Don’t hold back, change all the seals. Yes, that’s the updated B2 piston, but change the T seal. Transtar sells an OEM (MB) rebuilding Kit, includes every part you need. I have part numbers at my shop; I will post it tomorrow, or better call me for the number. 845 567 0312 EST. I have been very busy; when you call tell Kim it’s about 928s.

The PET lists all part numbers included in the auto transmission seal kit. The PET listing is at the end of the auto/manual parts listing.

I purchased the kit from Sunset Porsche as the price was very reasonable compared to an online discount genuine mercedes seal kit. The Porsche seal kit is made by mercedes, so some of the gaskets were extras for other non-Porsche versions of the MB transmission. As you would expect, the Porsche differential seals are not included.

I only found one seal for the secondary pump that wasn't included or listed in the PET, but found that o-ring at the local Mercedes dealer. Parts guy there said it was a VIN change. This was for my 90' S4.

Save all old gaskets in a large plastic bag, as they come in handy when selecting the appropriate replacement.

OK,
I picked up my rebuild kit from Transtar. This kit includes friction discs. The P/N I got from calling Steve Cattaneo is:
TSKB5500D/LS

The kit seems very complete. Most of the seals and gaskets were in a Mercedes wrapper, so most of the parts are Mercedes.

Steve,
During our conversation, you mentioned I need 3 things that are not part of the Transtar kit.

Diff seals (2X) 999.113.307.40
Nut 922.302.282.00
Axle seals (2X) 928.332.215.02

I am a little confused about the axle seals. According to PET, these are only used in the differential for the axles. I pulled off my differential casing with the LSD and axles intact. If so, I should not have disturbed these gaskets. Is this correct? Are you thinking of a different set of seals that I need?

Please let me know
Thanks

Does anybody know the size of the pinion gear nut? Is it 36mm or 37mm?

Thanks.
