This just in... Autothority Chips Are Good
With all of the EZ-F, LH, rev limit increase, etc. discussions here today, I decided to get off my **** and install my Autothority chipset that I purchased oh.... in November. I've been a tad busy. Anyhow... it took me all of 30 minutes (didn't need to remove the parcel shelf, BTW) to swap in and out the chips and assembly.
The results: my totally inaccurate butt dyno says WAHOO! When I first got the car it made me laugh out loud with how fast it was on the highway; a dog off the line, but I got over that. The laughing out loud faded away pretty quickly as I got used to the car in general.
This is a whole new experience! The laugh returned today full force; giddiness, actually. Definitely faster from 60 - 100, and definitely improved throttle response off the line, and in pretty much every other range. I have a spot here where it's a wide open 2 lane highway with almost no one ever on it on weekends; kinda like a 6 lane bridge in WV. Usually I can hit 130 max before I have to slam on the brakes as the freeway ends. Today... 140, with plenty of room to spare! (thus the laugh).
I bought them from an ad in the back of Pano; the ad is still there, so maybe he has more. Gets my vote. Dyno results to follow soon, I hope.

I bought a set from Mark Kibort (they were actually real Autothority) about 2 years ago and still have not put them in. I have had the control boxes out twice but could not get the old chips to budge so I bought the last chip puller the local radio shack had in stock the ran out of enthusiasm. Hopefully I will regain it in the spring. Till then back to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZz.

I just used some smooth sided tiny needlenose plyers to gently work them out. The pins are a little flexible, so don't be afraid to bend them a little. Do it! I think the benefit for your vintage is supposed to be greater than mine. I can only imagine.

I dyno'd 289 at the wheels with those in my S4 , totally stock exhaust. I also believe they raise the rev limit, but don't get carried away with the revs, and stick to redline. Your rod bearings will thank you.

Cool, thanks for the dyno info. The packaging claims 25 hp and 35 lb/ft gains. Mine dyno'd 262 hp at the wheels, only 6k rpms, though, and bone stock. After the exhaust, it dyno'd at 269 hp, but at 6400 rpm. Both were on the same dynapack chassis dyno. My exhaust is definitely set up for a richer mixture and high top end. These chips should help, and did. Sharktuning would be ideal, though...

I noticed a huge difference in low end and mid range response with my chips. Car was sluggish before (perhaps just used to my other car) but now it feels like a real V8. Certainly worth the money IMO.

I bought a set of the eBay 'clones' for my '85 only to find out I already had the Autothority chips when I went in to swap them out.
I don't know what my car would feel like without them, but comparing it to the (admittedly more comfortable) '86.5 auto I've driven, it's a night and day difference. Snaps your head back in all gears at any speed. I'm a BIG fan.

Definitely makes a noticeable difference in the '85-86 US 32v cars! When I let the PO of my previous '85 drive it with the AA chips in it, he remarked, "Thats how I wanted the car to drive! If I'd had these chips in it, I'd have kept it!"

Depends on how you define "a lot of previous experiance" :-)
We have been selling them for 10 years and have sold hundreds of sets. We always had a 30 day money back guarantee, don't like em, send em back. In all of the sets we sold I can only recall 3 sets returned.. one set was bought just to be copied and returned (never installed in the car, trust me it's easy to spot), one set we couldn't get to work in a 928 after 3 different sets(mystery), and I don't recall why the other set was returned.
However the "S4" range of use is limited to 87-88s, no gains were to be had in the 89 and later from our experiance. This is why we have only sold 85-86 and 87-88 versions for many years.
But, with John's Speake neat little invention I feel it is a matter of time before the Autothority chips will become a thing of the past. There is more gains to be had using the Sharktuner, especially if tuned on a "car by car" basis.
