Last I heard it had sacrificed it's roof to be a jig for all of the roll cages being built and installed up here. Ken has acquired another sunroofless body and is in the process of transferring it all over to the new car..but...according to "sources"..the old Krentz car is still possibly useable..maybe Chuck or Ken will chime in?..

Yes Ken neatly sliced off the roof and they made 4 duplicate sets of tubes for roll cages.....now the shop where the car sits thinks that they could clip it and weld the roof back on ....Ken asked me to keep an eye open for a front clip which might just come with a complete car like the last one I located for him ....so that would be another potential race car this could go on and on and on !!

Thats three dupes Jim, mine is a little different since I'm keeping my interior.
I guess its a lot easier for the fabricator to make the cage to very tight specs being able to open up the car in the manner that he did. The car looked like a total write off, but the fabricator says it can be fixed. Ken already has purchased another car to transfer all his race car goodies into, but it sounds like the Krenz car may yet live again.

Fabricator's shop is awesome. Got to sit in a vintage Formula 5000, what a wicked machine!

thats great news. what a mess though!

i cant imagine a front clip being welded on to the front of the car. it just seems like so much work. but, so is all the welding of the cage, fuel cell and all the other goodies he had added to this car. if you dropped the suspension, engine etc, i guess the real point is the fuel cell and cage work. is that work , worth just welding on a front clip??? hard to say. sounds scary though!

how's the engine? it looked like it had some timing belt and possibly, cam damage.

better get cracking, only a couple of months before the racing season starts!!!

Good luck Ken!! you deserve it!

The fabricator thought that the front end could be straightened on a rack. Apparently there's a shop in the area that's very good at straightening out stuffed race cars.

No damage to the motor to the best of my knowledge. He wanted to take it apart to refresh the rings. He said it didn't quite have the same compression after the blown headgasket. I think the bottom end only has about 8 hours on it, I think Dean had rebuilt it shortly before selling it.

That doesn't look that bad...sure the frame is bent beyond repair...but most everything else should swap across!!

Roll cage was built by:
www.chrisschmelzleracing.com

That trike in the picture on his website is an electric start gas powered margarita blender, complete with throttle controls. I love that thing!

I think the blue car can easily be straightened. If you guys think the frame is bent beyond repair then you've never seen a frame bent beyond repair! It is very common to replace the front clip - I know many 996 cup cars with new front clips. Don't know if you can find a 928 one though...
