Default Lifter issue/question

While cleaning up the cam towers yesterday I found one of the lifters to not be like the others. The spring contact has released from the lifter some. It won't come out, but when I push it back in, it appears to be spring loaded from within and will not stay in. I have a spare 1979 engine with the same sized lifter...can I just replace with one of those? I am guessing I can, but wanted to ask. ...and if you were wondering, YES, I have kept all the lifters in order to there respect valves. This lifter is from cylinder 5 exhaust valve. I am not sure if it is the valve that had the broken spring.

They all have the same part number.

I've got a bag of 'em, if you don't want to split up the 79 towers'.

The tool is a small chisel, in concert with a small hammer.

I would put in another lifter, , just make sure the new /used lifter has a smooth surface for the cam, use some break in lube on the cam surfaces when you reinstall the lifters

Used one off an old engine. I wasn't even going to waste my time trying to fix one when I have so many more. Cleaned them and used clean motor oil to put them back in. Assembly lube is not necessary as they are broken in and there is enough oil coating the cam and housing.

Anyway, this thread is no longer necessary as the heads and towers are back on the block.

Thanks guys!

The assembly lube suggestion is for the time the engine spins till you have it running with oil flowing through the heads, Hopefully you will also spin the oil pump to pressurise the oiling system BEFOR you install the T belt
