I live 300+ miles from a Porsche dealer and none of the locksmiths in a 120 mi. area cut 928 keys.

If I fax a copy of the title to a dealer will they cut keys off of the VIN #? Does Porsche still have the blanks or will I need to order off of Ebay? I have an alarm.

Tony Euganeo at Locksmith Service cuts 928 keys if you provide him with an original. His number is: 610.461.0519

Call Susan at Devek (www.devek.net, 650-592-5287) for instructions. You get to send a copy of the registration to them, and the they have Porsche make the key based on the VIN. Works great unless the locks have been changed sometime in the car's past.

928 International and 928 Specialists probably offer the same service. I know that 928 International can cut replacement keys from your key. Call Jim at 714-632-9288 for instructions if you want to go that route with 928 International.


There's a certain comfort knowing that the valet has virtually no chance of copying your keys while you are at the opera!

Thanks so much for the referral...BUT...due to problems with keys being cut incorrectly, we no longer offer the key cutting service through Porsche. We offered the service for years and maybe one 1 of 10 would be incorrect, but in the last year or so it has been more like 1 of 10 are correct! The only exception we make is for local customers, when they can bring their car here and we can check to make sure the key works.

Porsche still has the key blanks, but as far as I know they will not sell them as blanks. I would recommend having a key cut from the one you have, not from provding the VIN to Porsche.

While at frenzy a few weeks ago, there was a guy from PA cutting keys on the spot. Nice thing about it was I could check my keys right there. I have his card (somewhere). John E will surely know who he is. Maybe he can help. Possibly you can overnight your key and have it copied and overnighted back. Expensive, but worth it.

JFYI-
I have had three security keys cut, one worked- fortunately it was the first one. After two failures in 2-3 months, the Houston Porsche dealer refused to try again. Intimation was that they did not believe that the keys didn't fit. But they were nice enough not to charge me for the experience.
Let me know if you find a dealer or locksmith more interested in customers.

Why yes indeed, "that guy was Tony Euganeo". I also have had keys made on the spot, by Tony, and he has given me other helpful information about P-car locks. He does seem to be careful of our business, always available to talk about keys or lock problems, and seems to know all about P-car keys and locks. The keys he made for me work very well, no second tries.

I just went through this ordeal with my 86.5. Getting sidewinder keys cut can be a difficult proposition. Unless you can test the key to ensure that it works there is little point in paying for the service. My best results after two tries was to go directly to Porsche with the VIN number through a Porsche dealer. Key work perfectly.

If you can find someone who is willing to cut the key, but does not want to take the $ responsibility for screwing it up, buy your own blanks (eBay) and see if you can work out a compromise.

I think that just about the whole time Tony was there, he was cutting keys. All through the tech sessions, that key cutting machine was grinding away.....
