Jim:
I don't believe what you did. Please note, I was the first to post Tony Euganeo's phone number, but you thanked Greg (who provide it later along with an address) but not me.

Your welcome.

Ed,
Sorry, somehow I forgot you included his number in your reply. Thanks for your rapid response.

Jim.

I also have an update on cutting keys from the VIN #.

928 Spec. said there will be up to a 2 month wait because Porsche is having problems with their key machine. The current cost is $13.50 for the head and $40.63 for the key.

928 Intl. is no longer providing the service.

I've also emailed the KC area dealer to see if they will help me out.

Since I have only one good key, and it is aftermarket, I hate to mail it out. If I can get Porsche to cut a key I plan to send it to Tony and get 2 more cut by him.

Default Keys cut in Houston.

Reopening an old topic. King Safe and Lock on the Katy Freeway in Houston has blanks (aftermarket) and can cut a 928 key in about 30 minutes if you happen to be out that way with your car (my key needed to be tweaked a bit after the first cutting). The price is $45; the cost of the blank is an inconsequential part of it, so the price will be the same if you take your own blank.

Let me know if you find a dealer or locksmith more interested in customers.

It took Porsche THREE tries - and about 3 MONTHS to get one cut for me that worked!

We have a key machine plus the angle adapter and can copy the keys BUT I must have your key here. May people FEDEX the key insured for a $1,000 and we make spare keys. Sharktoberfest Mark's son Scott made a number of key copies. Every since Porsche moved the key machine from Reno to Georgia they have had far too many problems cutting keys by codes and typically blame it on "the locks have been changed" which is B S . A full lock set new is about $1,200 list from Porsche very few people "changed the locks". Quite often the key from Porsche is not even symmetrical which means it has no chance of being right.

Jim, I have one each of the alarm and valet keys for my car. If I send you the valet (short) key can you make both kinds of keys from it? Or do you have to have the alarm (long) key for that?

Porsche screwed me on this one. I went to my local dealer and got a key made by the vin #. For $85 you don't even get the key head! I kinda expected getting a "head" for $85!

Then the key didn't work worth a d*mn. Looked just like the original but didn't do s*it!!! Told the dealer and they just said "oh well". Excuse me . . "oh well" my ***! But yep - that's their policy, if the key doesn't work, it's oh well.

(Can you tell this situation upset me a little bit)

Thank god for Mark's son Scott! I brought my "shaft" to Octoberfest and with their key machine we had it fixed in about 5 minutes.

So the moral of my story is don't get a key from Porshe. The end.

The best guy I've found , for keys was Mark Anderson from 928 International, those guys are awesome. If you live here in LA you can drive there and he'll do it right now. Or you can overnight him the key and he'll send it right back. He's cheap too, I would recomened everyone have a spare. Wait till the electronics start to fail and the doors lock, by themselves, with the keys inside. It's NOT easy to get in that car!

I also only had one key when I bought it. So I orderd a blank key from "Jag Graveyard" or something like that on Ebay....it was cheap like $15 or so + shipping. I took it to a local locksmith (been in business forever) and they needed a special machine, but did it while I waited...took about 15 minutes and they charged me $15...key works great! Just make sure if your car is alarm or non alarm since the alarm keys are longer and won't work (guess how I figured that out)

Yeah I got one from Scott that day, that poor kid couldn't make those keys fast enough!

Looking forward to Sharktoberfest 2005, I had the rear window decal.

How do you know if your car has a long and short key or just one key? All I have is an aftermarket key that seems like it would be a short key.
