Default lighting upgrade

Thanks to Daniel Stern, I have my new 7" Cibie lamps installed. I've also got the full relay kit so I can run higher wattage, but for now I'm running the stock wattage. Even so, the improvement is nothing short of spectacular. Simply incredible what a properly designed reflector and lens, combined with good quality bulbs will do. I'll post a couple night shots later.

If you have the stock 7" US crap bulbs this is a drop-in replacement that is night and day difference, for less than $150 all-in. A real no-brainer if you ask me.

I'm also installing uprated bulbs for the parking lights and reverse lights, not higher wattage, but brighter and clearer. Really excellent service, highly recommended.

Here's a night shot. The thing I notice the most is the view to the side. With the US bulbs I had almost no peripheral vision, but with these everything is lit extremely well. Great upgrade!

Thanks! I like the rings too, wasn't sure I would until I actually saw this car. But I think they suit it well and they have grown on me, and with the lamp upgrade they just look sharp. And for the price, you can't beat them. Considerably less than the cost of a single 8" H4 for the same lighting, and I just made a few hundred dollars available for other stuff....

Yep, the Cibies are a 7" E-code lens using H4 bulbs. Now they light as well as the HIDs in the Mini.

Unadjusted low beam. I need to align them but out of the box isn't too bad. I just didn't have a good wall to project against.

Would you be able to post a pic of them once they have been adjusted with the high beams on? What is the wattage of the bulbs you are using? Did that $150 include all the relays for the higher wattage bulbs?

I just put Hella Vision Plus' on my '83. The stock halogens were almost dangerous; they sucked that bad. I have Hella E codes on my 951 and I love them. The Vision Plus' are DOT but they are about as good as the E codes. My wife drives the 928 more than me and she didn't care for the sharp cut off of the Ecodes. However the Vision Plus' have a similar cut off line. Not as sharp. What an improvement.

Sure, will be a day or two since I'll be out for the Superbowl tonight. Meeting a bunch of car guys, will be a couple Porsches and several BMWs there. I'm using the stock wattage right now, 55/60 but they are so much brighter than the DOT bulbs you'd think I was using a much higher wattage. Daniel told me visual "brightness" didn't have much to do with wattage and he's right. Reading his site is a real education. $150 gets the Cibies and two H4 bulbs. The relay kit is extra and I also bought some other bulbs from him, but under $200 for everything and I still beat the price of a single 8" H4! Works for me.

Does anyone know if it is required to run new wiring to the fuse block for the higher wattage bulbs or is the factory wiring capable of handling say a 100/55w bulb?
