Default AC Receiver Drier too long... hits PS cooling line

I was trying to install a new AC receiver drier in my GT yesterday and found that my replacement drier is about 1" too long. It hits the coil/loop on the PS cooling line that runs directly beneath it. Anyone else run into this issue?

BTW, the receiver drier I got was the cheap one and not the OE version.

My current thinking is to just try and move the PS line out of the way. Thoughts? Concerns?

Andrew-

I got the $24 cheap one (Parker w/sight glass) from DR and had no issues with it hitting the PS line, all the connections lined right up. The problem with moving the PS cooler line is that the only rubber portion of that line is after it makes the 90o bend over by the ABS pump- How you gonna move it?

EDIT: Here's a link to some pics:

I had the same problem on my 90' S4. The one I got from 928 Specialist was too long and hit the PS line. They were aware of the problem, but said others were still able to make the install. It also was smaller in diameter than the OE.

I sent it back and got a refund, then purchased a shorter aftermarket one from Vertex in Florida, but I still had to mount it with a strip of rubber around the barrel at clamp.

That was a few years ago, so don't know about now.

Thanks Rob, I think there's room to move it, but maybe I'd be better off getting the drier form Specialists (I know... *gasp* I got it from another vendor).

Sounds exactly like the issue I'm having. Hmmm I may try moving things around a bit. I'll take some pics to illustrate.

Andrew--

I added a few little cut pieces of fuel hose around the PS loop tubing so the drier would sit off of them slightly. I alslo added a strip of urethane around the belly of the drier so the clamp would snug up. It doesn't take very much. You can also work a bit with the condenser mounting to raise it slightly if you don't have room underneath for that protective padding/hose.

For those playing along at home, this allows users to buy the relatively inexpensive aftermarket 944 drier, with the sight glass in the top.

Different cars have different ones Andrew ... one was an inch taller. It has to do with the auto oil cooler .... I do believe auto ones are shorter and 5-speed ones are taller.

Well I'm not sure why they have different sizes, but I managed to persuade the PS cooler line to move over and make room. I have pics, but need to go to bed, so I'll post them tomorrow.

Autos need a tranny cooler -- it sits atop the drier in front of the rad.

I don't have a tranny cooler, and yet my replacement is too long. So why would my replacement drier be too long?

1st pic. Old vs. new receiver drier (RD).

2nd pic. Bracket where the RD goes... Notice the power steering cooling line directly below. With the new RD, it hits the cooler line and cannot be installed.

3rd pic. So I used the hold down and shifted it over so not it is no longer int he way.

4th pic. It's installed... and I too has to put a hunk of hose in the bracket for it to hold.

Andrew-

FWIW, here's the Parker drier in situ. It's 7 inches tall:

Thanks Rob. I think I'll stick with what I have as I have installed now, but I'll note it for the next time. I just vacuumed down the system - it doesn't leak.

Next step will be to charge the system as soon as I get the car runnung.
