Post Keyless entry kit install questions

I bought a fairly simple keyless entry kit - Audiovox APS-45. It flashes lights and sounds horn and can roll up the windows, but I'm most interested in just locking and unlocking the doors (and rear hatch separately) with the 2-button remote. The kit provide both negative (ground) and positive low current pulses for the door lock. I understand the 928 is negative, possibly both for lock and unlock. Before I try to decipher the wiring diagram, if anybody has BTDT, clue me into the door lock operation and any other wiring tips for a kit like this. I can't find anyone that has documented an installation on the web. So, I will do so once I understand the wiring.

TIA,

Bill

Bill,
Negative for lock & unlock and you shouldn't need any relays if your kit has negative O/P's. Best bet is probably to locate it next to the factory alarm module - location varies* - since all the required connections are there already (well except for the hatch release if you were going to do that).

* On the earlier cars it was in the console, later it was up in the dash & under the passenger seat. On yours it should be split between in the console & behind the glove box (according to the manuals). You can access the wires you need and probably locate your new module in the console.

It should be a small module w/ 9 pin connector w/ 8 wires attached. Its the only place in the consolewith the Brown/Green & Brown/Red wires below:

The wires you need:

Brown w/Green stripe = Open/Disarm
Brown w/Red stripe = Close/Arm
Brown = Permanent Ground
Red = Unswitched 12V (Battery via fuse)

If you need to access the unlock drive for the rear hatch you will have to route it across from the switch (yellow wire) needs a positive O/P, goes to existing relay. Looks like on your year the hatch setup (lock & alarm interface) is different than on my GTS so hard for me to say how to set this up. But if you have a 2 stage unlock (push button twice to get a 2nd unlock channel pulse) you should be able to use this with the rear hatch drive directly (since the alarm will already be disarmed) HTH

Cool

Bill-

A contact that I've chatted with is "AaronNOrlando@aol.com", who told me he has wiring diagrams and has installed alarms on Porsche 928's...

Normy!

So you mean these wires aren't just status pickups for the alarm by will trigger the lock and unlock of the doors? Great!

Bill,
Yes they do both door lock/unlock function & alarm arm/disarm functions on a single wire. This makes life easy doesn't it (for once..)
