Default Rusty headers

Hi all,

In my daily scavenge through ebay Germany I came across these *rusty* headers. If you have any feedback to help me decide wether to bid. State - I can see it. Use? HP gain? Trouble installing? Noise? Track car only? Valuation?

Thanks!

they look like a few backfires away from a big exhaust leak, you could have them coated , by a process called jet coat it will add a thin layer of heat resistant coating to the metal after they have been sand blasted, but the metal does look thin

I wouldnt bother with those

Look at the pic showing the header flanges, they arent lined up like they should be, this shows that one of the primaries is bent or loose most likely due to rust eating through the pipe and it dosent even sit straight. I do believe the primaries should be rigid and if they are out of place them there is something not right.

If you look at where the primary tubes enter the collector you can see they are not completely inserted. I think they come apart and are probably much easier to install than say the MSDS types. In a small way they are similar to the competition type the 928 Int'l sells periodically. Its not a probllem that they are not lining up in the photos.

Oops "In a small way they are similar to the competition type THAT 928 International periodically sells."
However looking closely at the picture PorKen has provided I think they are homemade. It appears that the joints are slip fit then welded.

If you can get them for close to 1euro+10euro shipping, why not?

they do look like 928 intl headers....best way to see is to have him take a pic of the inside of the collector..that is where the beauty is...nice machine work..should be a nice point (spear) inside the collector diverting the exhaust gases to the right tube...could be a steal if they are legit..I think 928 Intl sold theirs for around 850..

Good luck

They do look pretty bad, but the pictures might be bad too. I guess I'll put in a low offer and see what happens.

Thanks for the input gents.

Looks like just surface rust. They are stepped like the 928 Intl headers as well. If they are the real deal could be a bargain. Like Tom says, have the owner take a pic of the inside of the collector, that's the money shot for sure.

Ok I emailed the seller and he said the collector is self made. Think I'll let it slide.

Default Got a bargain...

I bought the headers off the guy for EUR250 = USD365. The headers are 928 International - the online translator made a mess of the German - my brother spoke to the seller who confirmed that they are not copies, whilst the Y-collector is home made, thus I think I got a bargain... Should get them by the end of this week - clean the surface rust, and then heat-wrap them - after all they are going on a race car...

That's a great deal! You might want to consider having them coated instead of (or before) heat-wrapping. Heat-wrapping already rusted headers will speed their demise.
