Default Help please,. non starter?

Can anyone advise please,.. my 928 is currently off the road for winter, something I do each year, and once a month I run it up to temp try all electrics etc.
Iv,e done this routine for the past 16 years, but today it just won,t run,.... she fires up as normal, only if you hold the throttle at about 2000rpm as soon as you release the throttle she cuts out,.. just gradually stumbling and then nothing.
I do hope someone can help with advice, as after 16years I still love her
BTW, last time I started her she started and run as normal 4 weeks ago ?

Kind regards everyone

is there gas in the tank? I know it might seem like there should be BUT???. Have any animals built a condo in your aircleaner housing or been munching on the hoses or wires under the intake?

it may also be possible that one of your fuel pumps may have gone west, to check for the 2 pump deal it requires removal of the bottom tank cover, see where the fitting gores into the tank if you see wires attached ner this fitting then you have 2 pumps

Hi, and many thanks for the reply,.. only the one pump on mine, and it also has fresh gas in the tank,..... just can,t understand this, it,s never done it before, and was perfect 4 weeks ago when I last run her up to temp.

Tried an hour ago, seems worse ie higher revs than 2000 required then immediate shutdown, no problem engaging engine to fire, it just won,t hold it

it would help if you could be more specific about your car.

by looking at your location and year model, I am thinking it is a Euro model with CIS K-jet injection?

If so, I'd say clean the gas out of the tank, regardless of how new or old, then change the fuel filter.

From there, you're on to checking the screens (under the steel lines) in the CIS system, and then on to fuel pressures, etc......

Really sounds like a fuel/injection system problem.

.......,sorry about the lack of info ....,I take onboard what you say being fuel related.
Yes the car is an 80my 928s 300bhp 5 speed manual.
Hopefully over this weekend a friend of mine might be able to trailer it to the workshop that rebuilt my transmission a few years back.
When I rang them they said they would start off at the fuelling side of things.
In the meantime it would be nice to have all the suggestions I can, in order to inform them of possibilities

Fuel filter? Clogged fuel distributor?

I don't recall if an '80 is CIS?

Run some quality fuel system cleaner throught it.

My guess would be bad plug wires....look for lightning under the hood...moisture has settled in....

My '85 does the same thing periodically. Seems like it always happens right after I move the car from the driveway to the garage, or basically when the car only runs for a few minutes and never fully warms up. Next time I start it, it will NOT idle. All I do to fix this is to hold the throttle open so that it revs at 2000-2500 and keep it there for a few minutes. Seems once the engine warms up it's ok after that. But then you need to drive it and blow it out otherwise next time, same thing. Maybe the plugs get fouled, not sure.

Just so you know, I've replaced wires, caps, rotors, plugs, air filter, CRC'd the MAF, cleaned all the connections, ran fuel tank cleaner, fuel injector cleaner, you name it, but it still does this crazy no idle crap if it only runs for a few minutes and never fully warms up.

Hope this helps.

another easy thing to do is replace the spark plugs, theres a good chance they are fouled from running too rich , from not driving your car, as stated before run a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner through the system . Engine stop and start driving is better than one long cruise

Default Help please non starter,...RESULT!!

Got a phone call this morning to say my 928 is running sweet, apparently the inside of the fuel filter had degraded and had a lot of undesirable stuff in there,... they fitted a new filter and completely cleaned all the fuel line and injectors,... also the fuel accumultor whatever that does, they said it was no good just replacing the filter as crud would have also found it,s way through the system.
As I said she,s now running smooth with a much more steady tickover, and altogether a nicer drive, (if that,s possible)
Again many thank,s for all who advised, and I hope this helps someone else
Kind regards

It could be because you have a '93 instead of the more desirable '86.5...
