Even if it needs a new motor.....It still makes sense to buy it......

Well I'll go against what others are saying. I really think due dilligence is necessary before plopping down the cash.
If the car is salvage title then you can devalue immediately. You should also consider how many thousands you will pour into the mechanicals to get the car operating again.
Unless your friend wants a project and doesn't care about the final value then I would say go for it.
Good luck either way and let us know the outcome

have greg or at least another rennlister take a peek to insure it's not a scam. ck the title to insure it's clear/not a salvage. all been said above. if the motor is junk cause the valves are bent and that's why it's running rough, that could be an issue. could just be a loose wire or vacume line too.
if the price is too good to be true - something is usually wrong. be careful!

As for mechanical parts
I have done allot of work on my car, and the car came with a timing belt failure, I think i spend maybe $3000 in parts rebuilding it. Parts are not expensive, and they are all readily available. I would however only buy a project car like this if you can confidently tackle this job. If you dont have confidence, i would still buy it cause this list helped me get through whatever issues ive encountered.
Thanks Brian, If you do pass send me the info privately in a PM.

Brian, curious that you ask the question. Obviously, you have some concerns. Like Ryan, I bought mine almost unseen. Price/Value......
Considering the number of post you have, you know exactly what you should do. There is something that you have questions about that lead you to ask this question on this forum.
You know the drill. Good deal or not, do it the right way or don't do it. Now this comes from a noob. I have learned.
