Question alternator cable, bracket and rubber boot thing...

While replacing my oil pressure sending unit today I discovered that the bracket that's on the alternator cable wasn't attached to anything. Was wondering where this went? I didn't see any empty bolt holes around there, so I guess someone didn't put it back last time they were in there.

There is also a rubber boot thing on the cable that looks like it's not installed correctly. Anyideas on that one?

If you talking about the 90 degree bracket that has the sheathed alt. cables running thru it, it should mount to the bottom alt. mounting bolt/nut. It goes between the alt. and the nut on the backside of the alt.

That's the one Mike. I kinda thought that might be where it went but wasn't sure. Thanks.

I guess the rubber boot/space is there to keep the cable away from the alt? Anybody got a good pic of what this should look like when done properly?

If you mean the soft black rubber block that the alt. cables pass through, with the hole slightly off-center, that is a grommet that fits into the plastic rear-cover of the alternator. The big one that accepts the cooling-air hose. There is a corresponding slot in the cover so that the grommet basically seals up the covered area so that the intake-air is forced forward through the alt.

John, could you email me those pics please?

I do not have the alternator cover. I was wondering what that hose in the fender well was for.

John,

Got it. Wouldn't know what it was except I've been staring at mine for about an hour now. At least I know where the cooler hose goes when I get a cover.

Thanks

KB,
Sorry, I'm using a minipulative -Photo-Draw 2-
program I blew it up to 200% for the second shot and played with light & contrast. But when I got my return copy it was normal and dark again. Also auto initiated the program so I'm not sure if you got anything useful. I can blow it up and brighten -I think- if I send it to web or a Document file if you want. Still learning .

Normy - 2 1/2" for the Alt Cooling Hose. Had to retro-fit the cooling hose on my 84 so I have an extra peice in which I measured.

Edited Comment: I went through the thread Greg linked and it states 2.25 but my hose is 2 1/2". I measured it twice/three times. My question now is - Are ROW different than US Models or did the PO replace with a larger tube?

I do not know why my post was erased, is someone against saving $42. on the alternator cooling hose? If there was a problem professionalism would have had the person at least drop an email to explain. I will say it again however, instead of paying $50. for the hose you can go to AutoZone and get a heater duct hose for $8. that will fit after you trim to length.
