Default WTB used shocks for track use (Bilsteins anyone?)

I'm only interested in Bilsteins or racing shocks. Complete coilovers with 2.5" springs are prefered, but bare shocks or shocks with mounts are fine.
Bilstein HD (silver, not green)
Koni 3012 or 2812 (not red 'Specials')
Moton
JRZ
Penske
Leda

I think it would help to put a price cap that you are looking to spend as the price difference between the different makes listed is fairly substantial.

I know the new prices vary a lot (Bilstein $800, 3012 $2000, 2812 $3600, Moton CS $3400, JRZ 3400, Penske 3800, Leda $2000). Bilsteins or Ledas would be a temporary solution. Koni 3012 is what I was planning to buy, but better is always... better. What I'm willing to pay is dependent on type, condition and what is included.

Carl sells koni-hypercoil kits for under $1400......pretty competitive price!!! Sure its not a 2 way adjustable, but those cost $$$$$ Moton 4 way adjustables are almost $10k!!!!

A better ??? is what level of competition are you building the track shark for...... The koni-hypercoils hit a nice price-performance point! If you want something all out racing....then you want a more adjustable shock...but most racing shock places can revalve-rebuild the standard koni's for cheap too

Koni Specials that are sold by Carl/DR/MarkA/Devek are twin tube oil shocks. They are disposable street shocks, not racing shocks. Everything I listed above (with the exception of Ledas) is high pressure gas monotube.

Once fully built, the car will be in NASA GTS3/4 and maybe SCCA ITE.

scots set up is pretty close to mine, (koni two way adjustable Devek level II).
Its a cheap way to get a great handling 928. just the stock koni or bilstien replacement sport shocks and some eibach springs. Then, (and this is key) cut one loop out of each spring. you will then have about a 700lb front, 450 rear set up that is good enough for some very fast times at most any track.

I'm not interested in Koni Specials and/or cut down 928 springs. Easily rebuildable gas monotubes (or Ledas) and 2.5" standard springs. All I really need now is the shocks. Everything else is easy enough to buy (CDOC is an hour and a half, OG Racing is 15 minutes away) or build locally.

Why not just purchase the correct rate and length..?

That is my intent. There's no point in buying $300 (or $400?) 928 specific springs then hacking them down. CDOC sells 2.5" Hypercoils for $53/each for any flavor you could want. Eibach 2.5" racing springs are only $58 from other vendors.

When you find this stuff Matt, and you have gotten what you need, let me know.

BTW, I have the bold bilsteins - two of them, that are good cores. They are the ones you can buy now in the coilover kits the suppliers sell. But those may also fall under your "Disposable street shocks" category.

I have those disposables on the 78 with hypercoils. I sure as hell hope they aren't disposable, and last a while.

Bisteins are rebuildable for $65 including revalving to springs. The spring limit is well over 1000lbs.

Koni Specials cost $155 to rebuild which is roughly the new cost (over the new cost from a few vendors). Several people with years of experience have said that Specials/Sports are not valveable to handle over 600-800lbs. Supposedly they max out around 450lb in unmodified form.

Bilsteins have stronger tubes and stronger shafts than Konis Specials/Sports. There used to be a couple companies that converted Bilstein HDs into adjustables and they were fairly popular for club racers. When those companies went out of business, the replacement of choice was Koni 3012, not the cheap Koni street shocks.

If I can't find anything used, I'll end up with Koni 3012 for $2000 custom made for a 928 (or if I suddenly come into a large sum of money, Moton Clubsport for $3400-3600). I'll just have to wait longer and deal with my mushy Boges for a few months/HPDEs.

I find it amazing that there aren't more people with used Bilsteins laying around collecting dust. I wish I had bought a set when I found new ones for $135/each a year and a half ago.

ive got custom valved bilsteins on my orange car, i think tom f has some on his yellow beast. they do work well. i would add more rebound damping next time, the good news is that whoever you get to work the bilsteins should have access to the damping numbers already in use in any 928 application.

http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?fo...action=product

So Motons range from $4460 (2 way) to the link above of $9359 for the 4 way......of course Motons are pressure adjustable...so its like adding a heavier spring thats adjustable.....

Penskes range from $732 to 1100 per shock depending on double or triple adjustable.....

Leda's gotta be pricey too

John V also has Bilsteins, but I forget whether they have been revalved. He made a comment at Frenzy (before the motor went) that shocks were at the top of his upgrade list.

Brian, those are Moton Motorsports. The Clubsorts are $3440 for 944/968 with rear coilovers for everything except springs and mounts. A 928 should be less since it is coilover front and rear. http://www.gmgracing.com/porsche_suspension.shtml
I listed the prices for all the options in post #3. I think my JRZ price is a bit low, but I'd rather have Motons anyway.
