Default How can I find out what interior color I have?

I plan to dye some front seats for my '83 928. I have "tan" seats, but I am not sure what shade, I see several shades in various literature on leather for 928s. My cars interior is both navy blue and tan. I also picked-up some seats on craigslist from a '88 944 that are the same color. Where can I determine what shade of "tan" I have, so I can get some dye to match? Help would be appreciated.

Cashmere was a popular "tan" color with the blue

Is there anywhere I can look to see what colors were available in 1983, I have an original brochure, but that was no help? It does look like cashmere, but I can't tell for sure.

was it called "cashmere" in 83? I thought that was a later color

Is there a "Cashmere II" used in later cars?

Cashmere does not show in my color chart for 83. There is blue, and there is greybeige, among a few very different other colors.

Unless you have sports seats, the 944 seats look quite different from what you have right now.

I think "cork" was one of the "tan" colors in earlier 928's

Yes, it was. And I have seen it on a black 83 928S 5-speed (all leather). Very beautiful! But it would not combine well with the dark blue, so I doubt this is what sfierle has in his car.

At the suggestion of another Rennlister, I called GAHH a few weeks ago and they sent me a 6" x 3" leather sample in the mail for free. I was only interested in one color, but I'd guess they'd send you several if you asked. I'd suggest taking a guess from the image samples on the site (http://www.gahh.com/) and having them send you a few swatches.

Or you could drive over to a decent upholstery shop and see if they have a sample book that you can take outside and compare to your car. Many places do use GAHH as a supplier so it shouldn't be hard to find one.

I think Porshe has a program were they can tell you what exactly your car came equiped with off the factory line. Think it costs 85$ or so. I forget the name for the program.

Maybe the option codes on the door can tell you?

PM me your VIN - I'll look up the option codes tomorrow at the dealer and let you know.

Rixter was kind enough to help do some research for me. It appears my car was a special order car. The tan part of my interior (it is also navy blue), we think is champagne. Unfortuantely I don't have any pictures of my interior handy to confirm this. My tan is a yellowish tan color, not a dk brownish tan or grayish tan. If anyone has a picture of a champagne interior handy, that might help. If not, I can do a search and probably find one.
