Good luck finding them. Im using a cd that I purchased for now. Its okay I guess but very time consuming to search through and find things. Manuals come up on e-bay but the bid always goes up fast. They are worth every cent though.

If you would like a cd I can burn you one and send it. Please e-mail me.

So far I haven't had any need for the paper manual.

I only wish my cheapo PDF set was better scanned.

I have bought and sold a few original hard copy manuals over the years. I could probably sell the set I have now for twice what I paid for them, but I won't cause they still comes in very handy.

Pay the extra bucks for the real thing. It's like buying a Blue-chip stock. At least that's how it's been for me. YMMV.

why does this seem amusing to me ? Someone spends much time and effort copying and distributing a workshop manual on CD only to have it copied by someone else and thus have little value . Is there No honor among.....

Still interesting the issue of property rights .. What if Wally decided that he had nothing better to do than spend the next full year writing the new "Do it your self guide to all things 928 " after much effort, labor ,thought research ,compiling of thousands of answers ...it is finally ready to be published . Wally negotiates his royalty fee as $5 per book , figures maybe they could sell 10,000 copies . However the first guy to buy one scans it onto a cd and shares it with his friends who also share ...... basic issue the guy could just as easily have taken Wally's credit card and stolen $5 or was it $50,000 . It perhaps is not about "knowledge being free" or "freedom of the press " . It makes little difference to me either way I frankly would like everyone to have workshop manuals , pet programs as much information as possible to be better prepared to preserve their 928 . But given the above scenario what are the chances Wally would write a second book . What we really need is for someone to research the Laws which I believe require that the manuals be offered for sale if any auto is sold in the US . Porsche has not had manuals for about one year ...... And please do not bug Wally about a book he has far too many other projects .

People would rather buy legitimately if a product is available at a reasonable price.

If Wally's book was out of print, seldom available, and cost $400 per copy, it would be traded.

If it cost $59.99 and was available at Amazon.com, it would be readily purchased.

[QUOTE]
What knowledge do you have that allows you to make a living and do you think it should be free to those who now pay you?

I just knew I'd sucker the regular crowd into the usual philosophical arguement.

Unfortunately, my Devil's advocate arguement is a stark reality given the ease of exchange of info on the net. Adapt or die.

BTW, any knowledge that I have that earns me a living will remain locked away in my cranium. I earn my living applying my knowledge, not publishing it.

Jim,

I was wondering who would chime in on this one although I must admit…I had my money on ED…Damn!

I couldn’t agree with you more on the moral aspect…my response was only is jest as I’m fully aware of EVERYONES opinion regarding the HOLY GRAIL MANUALS…

I ALSO fully support Jim Morris or anyone else for that matter to being compensated for due time invested however. PORSCHE… should be doing all they can IE: providing us 928 owners with the manuals for a Porsche model some 13 years out of production…

Come on…. the 928 is WAY OUT OF DATE regarding any service manuals and it just pisses me off that S0MEONE…PERHAPS PCNA or whoever is milking this to the end…talking about milking a dry COW!!!

AND…the damn manuals AREN’T the holy grail PORSCHE would like to think they are….Of course…I know….some other Ya-hoo has the CY to the script so I must not bag on them (P) too much.

I applaud Jim M. and the others efforts in supplying us poor “928 out of production “ owners with the manuals on PDF and go on record stating…”guys…pay whoever has done the work their due”…but it is certainly not PORSCHE or who ever the hell else might have the “copyright” to the “manual”.

Guys….let’s get a grip on this before I start mass-producing the damn manuals myself.

You all know me…I’m a nut anyways!!!

Jim…I luv…your manuals on PDF and highly RECOMMEND to anyone looking to go that route.

Is it mid-night yet???

I'd suggest we don't copy Jim's CDs and if any CDs are copied I'd suggest it be discussed via private message or email.

I also think the shop manuals are over priced-$250 should be more than enough. Also most of the other manuals on Jim's CDs are out of print and rarely available for sale.

Just my thoughts.
