Stereo Novice needs Speaker Help!
Ok, I am replacing all the speakers in my 86.5 restoration, and the large speakers that are behind the front seats to the left and right of the back seats, I need help with the wiring for those.
The new MB Quartz that I am fitting using the stock cage and grill, that took some dremel work, but got it done. The new speakers only have a positive and negative hook up, yet the wiring has the brown , green, and two clear wires, with one of the clear having a darker almost brown wire in it. The clear connectors fit the small connector on the MB , and there isn't one present for the larger one..
Ok, guys and gals which wire do I splice with a larger connector to fit the large pronge on the MB Quartz and call it a day...
I appreciate the help.

Green is positive, brown in negative (ground) - see diagram below. Now for the bad news. You are going to be sadly disappointed. The stock amp outputs were equalized for the stock speakers. Even if you go with a new amp/headunit, the sound from replacement speakers in the bolsters, even very good ones, will be very tinny. The cavity behind these speakers is not sealed and is essentially free-air. Very few speakers are designed to work well in free-air. Everyone I know resorts to a subwoofer to get the bass back. The stock speakers, at least when new, provided surprisingly good bass. No one I know has found a drop-in replacement that does. I got some reasonable bass with some MB's by stuffing the cavity and trying to seal it, but it was not as good as the original speakers. Let us know how it goes.

Figure out which wires go to the smaller speaker located above/behind it - those were fed from a cross-over on the main speaker - you eiher need a seperate passive cross-over to split the signal between these or you need new wiring to the smaller speakers from a seperate amp channel.. (or leave them disconnecetd)

ok cool, i will need to splice a larger fitting onto the positive wire, then it should work. I don"t care abou tinny, just need sound, in fact I sourced a period correct Reno sqr 46 for the head unit. Original owner replaced it with a modern crappy looking thing. Couldn't find a reasonable Monterey. This car is a ground up resto for weekend pleasure
