Default Merry X-Mas to me --Santa Claus colored interior off eBay!

Won this on eBay on Dec 26 for the listing price of $999:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...008028446&rd=1

Almost every piece of the interior I need is included --glove-box, windshield bolsters and hatch headliner too! Only pieces not included are the pod & dash (both cracked), headliner (sunroof --mine isn't), and front & rear visors. Anyone who's seen my current "track car" interior will definitely be very happy for me.

It's all due to arrive next week. A couple things I'm concerned about are:

1. Will power sport seats work in my '79? I have manual seats now. Do I need a controller?
2. Will I have to modify my doors to fit these later-model panels with the external speakers?
3. Can I convert the auto console to fit a 5-speed and have it look right?

I want to thank my norcal homie nosnow for pointing this out to me. Thanks Paul!

-T

Well done T,

seats look good. They should connect directly to the car. The wiring loom might already be present in your car.

The console is the same for either auto or 5 speed. The shifter trim ring is different.

All too nice! That looks GREAT
Congrats!
You will probably find that the speakers are to deep as the early doors have a shallow imprint - this is what lead me to start building custom door panels.
Basically there are a few choices. Not in order of preference...
#1 Have Paul recover your old panels and find some skinny speakers.
#2 Use the new panels and find different speakers.
#3 I read in a post that someone modified their early doors for the speakers - having oldhiemers I don't remember who - Dan?
#4 Build panels to fit your new speakers
#5 Hang in there and try to talk me out of a couple panels Har Har Har:

Thanks Paul. Any chance you can match this color? I'm not going to install the interior until after I paint the car in Feb/March, so could send you a piece of trim. I'll probably replace the door inserts since they look off due to being vinyl. I'd also like to have a red gear-shifter cover and maybe red visors --maybe even a red leather pod.

Thx man --judging by your avatar, it looks like you have a penchant for red too! I'm definitely considering #1 and # 5 (tell me more).

I'm also thinking about ditching the red carpet and going with a lighter color, like Pearl Grey silverknit --whadaya think?

Matching the red should not be a problem. Shifter, visors and pod are easy.
And you should think about putting a black piping on the red door inserts instead of the stock stitch line. Makes a big difference.

T:

Nice purchase. Looks like it could be Can-Can red, a bright lipstick red. I love it.

The door panels look like "Can-Can" red, while the seats and carpet look like "Red" red.

1. S4 seats use a different wiring harness than OB. unless I've missed something, the seats use a 12 pin connector on the driver's side, and an 8 pin on the passenger side. OB uses a 2 pin connector. Somebody please correct me if this is wrong, as I have repeatedly asked about this on my Euro.....? (I may be missing a harness between the 12/8 pin connector and the two pin OB connector???) Controllers are on the sides of the seats. Have fun bolting them in place--my S4's didn't come with mounting bolts, that was fun.......

2. door panels are interchangeable. no issues.

3. no issues with the consoles

nice interior!

Thanks again Paul! I wouldn't have spotted this if you hadn't told me about it. I owe you one. I'd definitely love to have some help installing it, so I'll let you know before I start.

Happy New Year to you too!

in prep for the install I would recommend that you order all new panel fasteners (Plastic push pins), there are quite a few. So your work will not come loose after a few miles.
Get a tube of Dow Corning 111 silicone sealant for the rear hatch seal to body channel (after scrubbing the hatch seal inject this stuff into you hatch seal channel it will prevent the rubber from leaking water into your new headliner, also smear some on the outer door window seals). Consider getting some bigger flat washers to secure the door rests to the doors, and check the armrests for cracks , you might need some door rest metal bolsters
