Don't make me call Doublenutz on this guy

Really guys, who cares. "F" him if he thinks the 928 is crap. We think his journalism is crap. It all washes out in the end.

HTML Code:
some people will read that article and write off the 928 as a car
they would like to own
Great - keeps the prices down so we can afford them

I couldn't care less if the writer thinks 928's are crap but it bothers me that he is adding to the pile of mis-information about the car.

I have heard from a good authority that there will be a responsibly written article on a 928 in Excellence magazine in the spring of '08.

OMG, that would be of historic signifigance as well as being very cool! The first real 928 article in Excellence was about Bob Devore, that one was a big influence on me and is why I'm doing what I'm doing to 928s 15+ years later. Louie, if your car is featured you're going to have guys emulating you years from now

Other than cracks from thrust bearing failure, I can't recall reports of block cracks. The author is a nutcase.

I dunno Mike. I wouldn't wish the things I did on anyone.

If you mean a sort of blueish white one that the owner can't drive, yeah, that's the one.

Yep, the early 996 engines had a fairly common failure (seen estimates as high as 5%). Water from the coolant jacket would make its way into a cylinder and then pop, cylinder wall would crack and a triangular piece would break out.

It happened on cylinders 2 and 5 IIRC.. Porsche's strategy was to replace the entire engine under warranty with a later engine that had some revisions which prevented the failure.

I stopped buying the 3 Porsche mags "Total 911", "Porsche 911 and world" and "GT Purely Porsche" after I made the decision to buy a 928.. I got bored with the incessant articles on 911's to the exclusion of 924/44/51/59/68/28/86.

I love the marque, but I can't respect people who only think Porsche made/make one type of car. Its like refusing to acknowledge that Ferrari made anything other than an F40, or Lotus made anything other than a Seven. Porsche made (and make) a range of fine cars, and to ignore that does the company an injustice.

I stopped buying GT Purely porsche cause with tax its almost $12.00!

The content is poor as well. I still buy 911 Porsche World and do buy Total 911 as i am a fan of the 911. But they only set you back about $8-9

As for magazines with absolute crap content, dont get me started on "European Car"

I was shocked at the authors obvious lack of basic research!! Throughout the years I've spent on the forum, I've never gotten the impression that a cracked block is in the cards somewhere. Bent valves are a real possiblity, but a cracked block???

I usually like GTPP, too, mainly for the stories on the older racecars - 917, 962, 956...etc. I do like 911's, but wouldn't trade my 928 for one, and the only ones that interest me are the old 930's and the new GT3's.

Best rag out there:Sports&Exotic Car. Not porche focused, but because of that you eliminate the 911 snobs!

The only crack I'd expect to find would be burning in that guy's pipe.
