Thanks Mark! I needed that to see if the 928 I just bought has a seized engine. Thanks again!

27mm or 1 1/16". Same size fits the steering wheel centre nut.

Yep definitely 27mm.. I just replaced my timing belt this week so have become intimiate with the crank bolt. Was a bugger to get off.. previous mechanic who changed the belt certainly exceeded the 218 foot pounds!

try to get a deep 27mm socket ( impact socket is better) because you may have to remove the nut with an impact wrench , its usually easier to do it this way

If you think the engine may be seized, pull off the front covers to check out the TB (timing belt) before trying to spin the crank.

Will I need new gaskets or something before I do this?

No... It's the plastic housing on the front of the cam housing.

Nope, you might even be able to take the intake tubes (black air hoses on each side of the engine) and look in the hole on top. You should see a black belt in each of the holes.

If you don't, suthins not right.

I bought a 3/4" torque wrench from JC Whitney or Harbor Frieght, can't remember which, for about $60 on sale. Works great. I don't have to use a breaker bar because of the long handle. With the 3/4 size, I don't have to worry about snapping my tools (which I've done using a 1/2" drive), and the torque range goes up to 350 lb/ft. Makes the whole job very easy. Also good for removing and replacing rear axle nuts. 1 1/16" socket fits just right.

I actually had a 1-1/16" socket (not deep), but it worked perfectly. I removed my steering wheel to get to my ignition better. My bad news is, I removed all the plugs and 6 looked normal with possiblility of a rich mix. 2 didn't look so good. 1 was wet with not much carbon on it "I think this may be head gasket issue." The other had a little bit of white crystals on it "not much but there were some." I removed the 2 plastic covers to reveal the TB and it looked fine and in good shape as far as I can tell. The problem is when I try to turn the engine (clock) with the crank bolt, no turno. Well, I remember the mechanic told me yesterday to remove the plugs and put some Marvel Mystery oil down the cylinder and let it sit for a few days if it didn't turn. Well, just did that and will let it sit over the holidays and see what happens. Any input on the spark plug descriptions?
