Howdy- Sounds like you may have a hot one on your hands. A 'ZZZ' is a stamp for Europe, ROW. The engine stamp, located just above the waterpump on passenger side of the block, should show M28.21 (manual) or M28.22 (auto). These engines are quite exciting for only being 16V type (310HP is exciting). What other goodies are on the car (Limited Slip, sport suspension, 5 sp., etc)? Have fun!

If the VIN on the sticker under the rear carpet is WPOZZZ92ZES8xxxxx, then it's an '84 Euro 928S. Option code C00 is european specs. A couple easy features to look for are the twin distributor caps, side repeaters (turn signals) on the front fenders just behind the front wheels, and a rotary **** near the driver's side hatch release and fader **** for aiming the headlights up and down (probably doesn't work though). These are Euro-only items.

Be aware that all 928 chassis start out as anywhere cars. The VIN on the ID plate is the only one that really counts.
As others have pointed out, there are some telltales like the twin distributors and the like. Side markers are eliminated during the US conversion process, and you would find the Euro front lighting toned down some to parking light capability, the speedo replaced with a MPH unit, etc. Other telltales might include differences in the year-model designation on the title, especially if the car was brough in used. The importer would declare the model year at the time of conversion, making the car title newer than the car itself.
If you have Euro and it's already here, and the engine hasn't been squeezed much in the certification process, you have a great piece.
Much more likely is that you are reading the code stamped into the universal chassis rather than the ID plates.
Let us know what's really there!

According to the Tech reference the M28.19 is the USA flavor for a 5sp. (242HP). Do you have any maintenance records that might show an engine swap? Does it have a 'catastrophic perverter' or a muffler under the front of the torque tube? A Euro exhaust will also have a twin pipe exhaust all the way to the rear muffler with a little silencer before the rear muffler.
