Default Leaky Injectors- Advice Needed...

Hello,

As part of the intake freshen up on my '84- I pulled the fuel injectors and sent them out for cleaning/ testing. Just got word that 6 out of 8 have a slight leak. They wondered if I smelled gas under the hood...

Looks like replacements are in order. Will anything work other than Bosch? Sources?

I'm seriously considering supercharging the car next year. Should I consider a different flow rate?

That'll teach me. If it ain't broke- don't fix it....

Thanks!

Run a search on Ford injectors.

IIRC they are a drop in replacement for your MY

since your into a injector replace/ cycle its also time to replace all 4 of the flexible fuel lines , this prevents unwanted bond fires. you might find a set of injectors on Ebay

I don't think that the Ford injectors will work on the L-Jet engines. I'm pretty sure you have to go with the OEM parts. I had a leaker on my 81' and one replacement was $70.00. I'll be watching this thread to see if I am wrong. I hope I am!

Everything I've read indicates the Ford injectors will not work in an '84. Motorsports has a rebuilt set for $329. New ones are $125 each. It's like the monkey said when he peed into the cash register- this stuff runs into money ...

ok.............that would be my faux pas.

Ford 24lb injectors are direct fit for the early 32v engines and the 19lb Ford fit the later MYs with mod to the Orings.

Hey Don,

Your links aren't working here. I can see the second link is for 928 Intl. I would just call them and ask. They're great to work with and can probably tell you the right part off the top of their head.

Are you doing the top end? If so and you need a hand, let me know. I'm always interested in lending a hand and Adam and I are on the first of 3 of them right now, so it's all fresh in our heads!

Hey Mike, how's it going? I'm just getting my list of stuff together and accumulating parts, so when the warmer days come, I can just grab a box of stuff and get started on my chores one at a time. I'm narrowing down the injectors to get the best I can without spending a fortune on OEM parts. The Ford ones seem to be the way to go (my daily ride is a Bronco; always liked Ford engines, and it uses the same injectors!). I haven't posted enough to get the links right just yet; maybe next time. And it's 29 degrees as I write this, a bit too chilly for me to be outside working on the car, these fingers tend to stiffen up in the cold, so I'm tackling some little things. Managed to get the dash lights working, ordered replacement lights for the overheads in roof and tail because they didn't work at all. Fixed a few leaks, cleaned all the bulb sockets, so all the lights work fine now. Idiot friend opened my sunroof (which wouldn't close, and it was raining when he did it (what in the world was he thinking? Why would anyone open a sunroof when it's raining?). I had to manually push it closed and brace it with a couple wood blocks to keep it snuggly closed. That's definately one thing to get to as soon as I can; going to order the seals and plan it for the first warm weekend I have off from work. TB & WP done at Jorge and Jack's in Clifton, guy said the TB had been done at some point in the past (I'm at 74K miles right now) so I'm guessing other routine maintainance had been done as well (I hope). I asked him if there was anything else I needed to address right away, he said no. But without a driveway or garage to work in, I'll probably have them do the torque tube check, motor mounts and oil pan gasket as well in the next few months. The car developed a miss and rough idle about a week ago, seems cured by a run through with a bottle of Techron for now, but I want to replace all the routine stuff anyway (plugs & wires, fuel lines, air and fuel filter, injectors, clean the MAF, check wiring harnesses for deterioration and fix whatever I find, etc.) so when something else goes wrong I can rule out the obvious. Car also seems to 'float' a bit, probably going to do shocks and springs as well at some point. Lots of stuff, but for now it seems to run well enough for a ride now and then to keep it from getting 'rusty', I know these cars need to be driven just like my knees need to be walked around to keep getting too stiff. I'm looking forward to the warmer months; would like to get down to meet you and some of the other 928 owners around here. In the meantime, I'm racking up the overtime to save up for all the 'improvements' I want to make. Oh well, time to get to sleep (I work nights). Have to work this weekend, but am off next, maybe it'll be warm? Even though it's January, I can always hope. Oh well.
