That one's been for sale for a long, long time. A decent S4 at that price would have been snapped up by now. I think that one should be considered a money pit.

It "may" be worth buying if you can talk them down 2-3 thou, but then figure on spending who knows how much to get it up to snuff.

I would say, if you have $7k burning a hole in your pocket, and you want a 928. Find a decent old boy as close to your home as possible. Get a ppi on it. If it checks out, buy it, and you may have a couple thou left over for the immediate maintenance items it will inevitably need.

For the price, It might be a steal... Or on the other hand it might be a big ripoff. The pics look somewhat decent, but there are not many pics to see. So, either they did not take a lot of pics because they didn't want to, or they are hiding something. If you are close to them, go down and take a look.

It seems like from what other guys here say, these things can run forever. I have an 86.5, but it only has about 100k on it. It runs great and has not givin me too many problems. I am hoping I have at least another 100k left in it.

So, I retract my earlier statement about getting a few thou off. I'd say its a $2-3k car. Not that the dealer will ever realize that. Hey its a Porsche!

I've got 139k and nothing major for problems, but tons of maintenance. I've personally seen an 87 s4 with 465k and another with 368k miles that were in pretty good shape and still running strong with no rebuilds.

Dude, I'd really be careful of that car ,I called on it about 3 months ago when the ad listed the car at 415000 miles. The salesman confirmed the car had 415000 miles, I wanted to be sure that it wasn't a type-o. I passed on it. I'd be real weary of an odometer rollback. Something's Fishy here.

I really don't know as I don't have any first hand knowledge of the car. Sounds like it from that post, but who knows what's been done to the car since the guy named Mike sold it.

From the sounds of the PacNW yahoo groups thread, I'd say its a parts car, or a candidate for a replacement motor (unless one was put in since then).

For the odometer, I'd check the carfax and maintenance history on it (if there is one).

The odometer gear can stop working for a while giving a false low mileage car, and I think several people have had the first wheel stick to the next so it rolled a hundred ten thou instead of just ten thousand. Mine had over 200K on it when I got it and the last 7 years or so (listed in carfax transactions) averaged about 10K miles per year, so I think it's pretty accurate.

I don't think this thread is about mileage anymore, I just wanted to put that out there.
