Back to mulling on this. I’ve got my exhaust off right now and am staring at the original, 111,000 mile O2 sensor. I'm seeing two options here:

1. Install a new NB02 sensor, then (after the spring smog) install a Stage I Murf setup, do no tuning, and hope for the best with ****ty California 91 octane.

2. Order up an LC-1, install it in the stock bung, feed the LH a simulated NB signal for 6 months, then install the supercharger, buy a Sharktuner and a burner (thanks for the offer Andre!) and tune this bugger

The cost of a Sharktuner is cheap insurance and peace of mind relative to an engine misadventure, but if the Murf Stage I is really plug and play, then diddling with tuning is unnecessary? I really don't plan on going past Stage I. (I promise, Andrew!)

Thoughts?

The current "rumor" is one of the S/C "builders" out there has a CARB legal kit in the works.....it might be a year or two or more away, but the wheels are grinding....it is a hassle and a PITA....but how much is it worth in terms of a price increase to NOT have to take the S/C off every other year...or every year if this new law passes

I think this is correct. It's plug and play.

Bill-

I will have more or less rebuilt this car by the time it's S/C'ed, if all one needs is a stock car that's up to snuff, I should be pretty snuffy.....

Sterling-

Sorry, the undercarriage is embarrassing . I'm working on it, though. One piece at a time. Those GT resonators are 18 years old. Porsche builds good stuff!

I honestly believe that there is little risk of engine damage with the stage I kit because the stock EZ-K is capable of retarding ignition timing by as much as 9* if it encounters knock. And with the old rule of thumb that you should retard timing by 1* for each pound of boost, you should be covered well.

That said, a shark-tuned Stage I kit should produce more power than one running off of the stock ECU, but the gains would probably be marginal (10~20RWHP) in my opinion.

Of course, very few plan on going beyond the Stage I. But once you go down the path that leads to the dark side... well I don't want to spoil things for you.
