I have this Dr. Gas X-over, but I havenot put it on yet. I will also have some spintechs to put on a dual setup for an 81 auto. Just 2.5 all the way back. I have no idea what I can compare to.

The Dr. Gas unit is not 180. I thought it was, but it was like 220. 3 in, 2.5 out. Must go RIGHT after the headers (I now have MSDS)

180/220... Point was that it is not SST. It *does* look like the Ott unit. How much has Louis been getting for them???

Cool

Hello All,

I just wanted to add this since E-mail with Louis Ott. First off he does have a website, www.928Performance.com It is incomplete but does have the crossover pipe on there as well as contact information.

The site only shows a listing for 87'- 89'S4, but Louis says that it will work just fine on my 85', with only having to decide what to do with my air pump outlet, which can be handled in several easy ways.

Louis answered my email very quickly and was very informative. Also, he told me he was shipping out his last ones today until the next batch comes in.
I told him to put me down for the next batch.
I am really looking forward to hearing how this sounds with the rest of the system stock.

One thing that should be pointed out is that Louie has spent countless hours optmizing the fit and performance his X-over for the 928. We are talking about a stack of dyno sheets about an inch thick.

I know there are several companies out there that sell an "X", and that's fine if you think all "X"s are created equal, but Louie's is a bolt in unit that can be installed by the average Joe with a set of jackstands and is optimized for our cars. We have a local in our group that had a beautiful stainless dual exhaust system put in, with I believe is a Burns "X". It sounds great, looks great, but in comparing the "X" to Louie's it is clearly too far back from the manifolds. What's that worth, maybe a couple horsepower? Maybe not enough to be noticeable? True, but why give it up if you don't have to, right?

Thank you for pointing this out Adam.

The fact is that an X must be SUPER close to the manifolds, if not exactly at the inlet of them.

The picture above is what a stock manifld user would need, and I am sure Louie woulkd make one that has the inlets closer together for someone if they needed it.

If I had known that Louie did these earlier X-overs, then I would probably have not bought the Dr. Gas X-over that I Have now. I must say, also, that the unit pictured looks a hell of a lot easier to install than the one I have.

I do however, have to have a whole new exhaust fabricated, as I have MSDS headers on the car, a X-over in a box, and two spintechs in a box, and nowhere in San diego that is willing to piece this together without a cat, which I do not need as the car is exempt where it is titled.

Turbo Tim of www.speedforceracing.com was very helpful this morning though, and I would suggest him any time. He is one of my limited amount of options in San Diego.

There is no such thing as "exempt" from Federal Emissions Laws but States may opt to no longer require testing of the emissions . For those in cases such as yours where the fear of getting caught working on an illegal car (no cat) prevents the muffler shop from touching the exhaust . You might make an appointment to have your " race car " dropped off early in the morning before the shop opens since it has no license plates it obviously would need to be flatbedded . The shop could build your race exhaust and you could arrange to pick it up after they close again obviously with a flat bed ..... as long as they note that the car is not street licensed (no plates )and was not driven on the street it would be very difficult for anyone to hold them responsible for violating the laws . So when asking a shop to weld up your race exhaust be sure they know it is a race car and not ever driven on the street or registered for the street.

Hi All: I just ordered up a set of MSDS Headers today, from the guy who makes-em. In stock and to be delivered after nickle plating in 10 days. After waiting over four months for Devek's Level II headers, even after I paid for them in full ($995) and sick of the excuses, I canceled the order.

Brendan: I plan on using the Dr. Gas X-Over also. I'm going to weld-em up myself with a pair of Borla mufflers. These days your better off doing the job yourself.

I'm really torn between “The LO-X \ test-pipe “ and the “Dr. Gas-X” after discussing this with Marc (@DEVEK) just this afternoon. I like the idea of just bolting on the LO-X and having instant gratification. But will I be satisfied with someone else’s design, and will it fit my taste or needs? I know if I design it, build it and it doesn’t work. I will know what it take to change it so it so it does. Is it a pain in the A$$, you bet! Even for someone that has BTDT, every motor is different.

The placement of the X will determine how well the X performs and the sound that it either generates or squelches. Modified 928 owners and/or running headers should keep this in mind and discuses this with whomever they have fabricate their “test-pipe” or exhaust system. If your running a stock 928 motor with stock exhaust manifolds and stock cams, an off the shelf LO-X (cat-test pipe) will work well as other have pointed out the time Louie O has put into his product.

Dave M, thanks for the link to Louie’s website.

I just picked up mine today!! Haven't opened the box. I've got a sizeable backlog of stuff to do, so maybe this weekend.
