trim level question on OBs
I have been looking at alot of pictures of various cars, and I was wondering if there was any sort of listing of how many of our cars came with the non power seat option. I have very simple seats in my car, with no electric adjust, but most seats i see seem to be six way power. Were my seats a different option? Or are 84s just simpler than other years? I am also sort of curious how many cars had the leather dash. I see alot of later cars that seem to have just a vinyl dash.
Anyone have any numbers?

I don't have the numbers you are after. I can tell you this though. My 80 has power seats and a leather dash/center console/door panels with a vinyl pod. My 84S has identical seats, but vinyl for the dash/console/doors/pod.

There were four distinctive seat designs available between '78-84 MY. Three were available every year and one only for '80-82 4.5L ROW model. These were non electric, six way electric, sports and low cost 911 style seats. All four could be had with several different cloth and in case of first three also vinyl and leather combinations.
Leather dash is fairly common in some early MY's as factory did it to make some not so well formed dashes useful. Making large piece like dash wasn't always successful and covering them with leather also covered flaws which would have othervise prevented factory from using the piece.
No one outside factory has shown any real numbers on how many cars were made with any given interior combination. There were so many possibilities that its even possible some more odd combinations theoretically available were not ever made in real life.

I've got an odd combination. Both seats are leather comfort models but the driver's is 6-way electric and the passenger is manual. It was the first one I'd seen with two different seats but as far back as my records go (1985) there are no seat replacements, so it looks like it left the factory this way.

It is somewhat unusual for '78-84 MY to have electric and non electic seat but not totally unheard of I think.
'85-95 new style seats can be just about anything on each side regardless whats on other side. Many have 12 way electric drivers and only 8 way electric passanger seat. Also in several cases only drivers side has heater. Very few have only drivers side sport seat but thats possible too. Even normal comfort seat on drivers side and sport on passanger side was available if buyer really want that.

FWIW, my '79 Euro came originally with manual seats on both sides. I changed over to seats from an '89 and connected them to the existing pigtails on the floor. All electrics work on the new seats with the exception (of course) of memory.

FWIW - I was told by a retired Porsche sales person that in 83-84 Porsche cost reduced the interiors.
He indicated that the factory began using "cost reduced" materials for the dash, pod, console, seats and carpet.
Cheers,
