It'll be soo much fun to see what you guys will say when the final product is unveiled. And how you like it after seeing it a few times in real life.
Many people did not like the 928 at first, but once they saw and understood its design, they fell in love.
At this time many of you are bashing something that you have not even seen, yet. Wny?

Let's see,....There is the 911 morph toward the 928 rear end, the boxster that looks like the 911 to the point where you have to look at the rear badge to know the difference, the cayman low profile low horsepower 911, and the cayenne 911 suv morph. And now, they have the front-engined 4-door 928 911 looking thing where at the push of a button the 4 doors turns into 2 doors and it looks like....a 928 911 front-engined morph!; oh boy!. Except, the strange thing is that the 928 hasn't been made in more than 12 years, and it never resembled a 911..........
It kind of makes me wonder if "Porsche" ever actually made a 928, or if it was just some crazy guy working there who managed to squeeze a few out of the door before he got busted for thinking outside of the box.

But Porsche never said that the Panamera is in any way related to the 928. It's a whole different model that is supposed to sell in numbers that per year are half what the 928 sold in 18 years.
If you want exotic, just stick with the 928...

Besides the newer cars (e.g 996/997) share more with a 928 than with early 911's - yes the engine is still in the back - but its bigger & watercooled, the car has grown in size & weight, creature comforts abound, the electric complexity surpasses a 928 - (but materials - not so much). The looks at the rear are more 928 S4 than early 911...
So we lose the pop up lights for HID projectors...
I think the 928 lives on in many ways across the whole Porsche product line - as the learning vehicle for the underlying DNA if not in the final looks (and sometimes its there too)
I'm sure the Panamera will be a great car (just not really so much a 928 sucessor as another fresh start).

Sorry if repost, but dam, that "928 sedan" is ugly.....

I admit the first picture looked good since it was a front-shot. Once you get to the sides, and especially the rear, it is borderline HIDEOUS, whose hideous-ness is right up there with the 4-door 928 they rolled out once.
For the record, I'm not a big 928-styling fan either since they blew the ***-end on it too. What's up with those Porsche body stylists anyway?? They could, and should, take a lesson from Aston Martin's stylists. I mean, that car is ridiculous looking being all out of proportion...

Three Wheelin'
Why do automakers feel the need to add doors lately? For a supposed sports or high performance car, added doors compromise the structure, add weight and complexity, screw up the wheelbase and make it look silly.

Ah ..."feel the need to add doors lately? For a supposed sports or high performance car, ..." Perhaps the 50 something guy who buys one which has room for the wife and two kids gets a better reception at home than he does with a car that only can handle he and his girl friend It is a FAMILY car it can be used for Business ...In addition , many younger drivers were raised with 4 door cars and the coupe is not as "special" in their minds....the EVO ,WRX , SRT4 all have extra doors !

I will be very curious to see this car and get impressions on how it performes. Porsche has apparently spent more $$$$$$$ on the development of this car than any car in its history. It should be all Porsche when it comes to driving experience. I just hope it does look better in final form.
I am glad that they are not trying to follow Aston Martin lines and are doing their own thing. Too many other people are doing the Aston thing. The entire new Jag line is just an Aston body with a Jag badge. Go figure, same designer, but at least try to do something new.

Now that Porsche controls VW and "Volkswagen owns:
-Audi
-Bentley
-Bugatti
-Lamborghini
-SEAT
-Skoda
-Volkswagen
I think we have not seen the only use of the Panamera Chassis

From what I understand, Porsche is indeed spending a fortune on the development of the Panamera, and it should have outstanding performance.
However since they're going somewhat Carerra-GT with it, it looks like they will position it Waaaaaay upmarket in the $200k+ region - ruining it for the very role most of us would want it for: A daily-driver-family-and-business-capable-sports-car.
