I am currently running a set of 17x8 and 17x9 cup wheels as my "dry wheels" and a set of BBS 16x7 and 16x8 3 piece as my "wets".The cup wheels are heavy cast street rims. Both have Toyo RA-1 tires that at the beginning of the season are full tread. I'd swear the BBS's work better but it's close.. by the end of the racing season my 17's have more grip for sure but even with a stock 2 valve I can get power on over steer more than I would like. Seems like most racers are running wide 17 and 18's on the rear, I have messed with my set-up to the point of changing spring rates etc. and though I have made small improvements I know the car has potential for more. I need more rear grip!
What rims will fit, as in if a set of say 993 Fikse FM-10 17x8 17x10 rims will work?
Is there a way by measuring the backspacing or if the by the ET number determining if the wheels will clear the calipers etc.
My car has the 89 Brembo brakes and Leda coilovers.

if you want to run to the lip of the fenders, work backward to back spacing values i use on my rims to fit large tires.
8" backspacing for both a 9.5" rim up front and a 11" rim on the back
just use the math to find out what the back spacing will be on the rims you are considering. I can tell you that the front 996 rims do not work. they end up putting the tire about 1" passed the fender! the rears, however, work well with 10" rims that come on the 996 and you can fit 305s by using them. ive done that many times on several 928s. the fronts are tricky. I think i remember my offset number being near 80mm.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, Mark, what spring rates do you typically run?
Sterling what are the rims you will be selling and what will the price be?

One cheap way to go is all 4 10x18 et65 rear wheels. they should fit on the front with 265 tires and you can find that size and offset wheel in a cast replica wheel. Sure probably 29 lbs each, but cheap and OK.
CCW in FLA has 18's for $2600 a set in 9.5, 10, and 11" width and any offset you want. And 20 lbs each.
p.s. I got wheels in what I considered to be the optimal sizes and offsets (9.5x18 et68 front and 10x18 et52 rear) and have no fitment problems. I could have gone 11" rear but didn't want to have such a staggered set. It takes a while to get a handle on the 928 offset thing.
Easy answer: buy Sterling's wheels, I am sure they are perfect.
