Valentine 1 upgrade
As I drove by one of those radar signs that show your speed I noticed that my detector didn't go off. It was at least 8 years old so I guess it was time for the upgrade anyway. I went to their web site and the upgrade was $229. Ouch!
Well I need protection so I overnighted to them and got a call the next day asking what address they should send the unit to. They were sending it back the same day! I got the box the next day and lo and behold, it was a brand new Valentine 1.
SWEET!

You can go to their site and punch in your serial #. It will tell you if your is up-to-date. Mine is 2 years old and last time I checked ( a few months back) it was still the latest model.

Mine is 7 years old. Works just fine except it doesn't have POP.
I was told that POP isn't used for issuing tickets. Maybe that is what they were using for the sign?

Guys, would it be possible to hide a Valentine or similar radar detector somewhere in a 928 ?
They're illegal to use here, but after 'having my portrait taken' last week, I really wish I had one...
Cheers,
Erling

It is possible, but not easy. The hardest part is finding a way to hide the unit itself without losing the ability for it to pick up the radar/laser signals. Unfortunately, Valentine does not offere a unit with remote antenna. You might be better served with some of the remote units made by Escort if you want total stealth.

He had the brake fluid warning light set to flash when the detector was triggered, and other lights set to flash for "in front/behind/alongside" arrows. I went for a ride once, and I told him that I couldn't LIVE with a car which kept flashing its brake fluid warning light at me... I'd be a nervous wreck!!!
I don't know who did it for him, but I can ask, and see if they can tell you more. -They'll be in Florida though, which is a bit of a trip for you!
I also have an (older) V-1, and when I enquired about upgrades, they told me that mine was the older motherboard, therefore non-upgradeable. For a (higher than the usual $100 or so) fee, they'd just replace the entire unit, since their policy is one of COMPLETE upgradability and absolute customer satisfaction. The new unit would also be covered by a re-started warranty.
Haven't done it yet, since my particular install would also require replacing the remote stuff, but the newer one would also allow me to upgrade to the 'different-colored-LEDs-for different-RADAR-bands' remote display.
My current unit still works perfectly well, but I'm dropping hints to my wife that I might like the upgrade for Christmas, and that some other relative/family member could get me the newer remote display, if they like...

My colleague just sold his '03 cobra which (according to him) had a V1 installed completely 'stealth'. I have a V1 in my car with the remote display mounted in the dash, but his was ridiculous!!!

Would be VERY slick if you could combine a detector with the digital display dash and then program new custom messages. Afraid it would require degrees in both engineering and electronics to do so unfortunately. Come to think of it, Porsche really should have offered this as optional extra equipment...
