John - I agree its a tidy and out of rear sight location - my comment was really aimed at Erling's desire for total stealth in the face of the law...

I don't have that problem, in terms of visibility - I'm more worried about the 'lawless' than the law...!

(...Speed is quite another issue...)

Once you have become familiar with the arrows and their multiple alarms, you will learn to respond instantly. But to do that, as Alan has said, you need to have a direct line of sight to them relative to the direction of travel. And you need to be able to recognize in a flash what the source of the alarm is: laser, radar and type, etc. Then you need to continue to monitor the display to know when and if the threat is passing or has passed or how strong it is. You also need to monitor your speed as the threat is in effect. I often get hit and then jump on the brakes only to notice the threat has then disappeared as I have fallen under the limit. The conclusion is obvious: someone is monitoring my speed and then abandons interest knowing I am in compliance and they go away. It all happens in an instant, but you need to know your parameters at the time. I'm sorry, buy I prefer the display to be directly in front of my face since my vision is in front and to the sides of me at ALL times while I'm driving the machine, not at the ashtray nor at the mirror for any significant length of time. Another fun thing is having a bear walk up to the car and claim he shot me with radar and then notice the main unit on the window and I know it never went off. When he spots it, he knows I know he is a liar. What a gas!! A liar with a badge. There are few things I find totally disgusting and repulsive in this world, but that is one of them.

Keith,

This is exactly how my V1 is installed. It allows me to move it from car to car. I didn't like the dangling wire. Works for me although I do think a remote display would be nice. I'm just to cheap to buy one. Maybe a good birthday present from the wife? After all, she hates when I get a speeding ticket.

Its actually pretty easy to route an ignition/accessory switched wire up from the Central Electric panel - up through the passenger side A-Pillar along the headliner front edge - there is actually a cavity about 1-1/2" behind the windscreen edge - to the central position. At the interior light you can loop it back out at the front edge rather than through the light fitting... I imagine a 944 is similar too.

You can also mount the V1 using an adaptation of the provided visor clip. Remove the metal clip and bond this to the windscreen attach of a generic rear view mirror glass mount (these are <<$10 at auto stores. Some fabrication with JB Weld needed here but easy... You do have to use the windscreen mount upside down - so you need a metal tab screw on version (common though).

Once mounted like this (pivot mount) you can align and superglue the ball/socket pivot mount fixed in your desired position. This is solid as rock, removable and still leaves you with the suction cup mount for use in other cars. I've been using this for almost 7 year and it has never fallen off or moved. Supergluing is optional but without it it does sometimes move (bumps etc.)

Cool, -I'll work on that over the T'giving weekend. I also want to sneak a wire from the 'switched live' on the ignition switch, as a dome-light delay "kill" command while I'm at it.

Alan,

When I read of fixes like you posted, I slap myself on the forehead and ask, "Why didn't I think of that?" Rennlist pays for itself again! Thanks much. I think I'll change my configuration.

Here are some pictures of the mount construction - the last is a close up of the equivalent for a Passport 8500 X50 that I have in my truck - I built the same basic thing for that.

You have to cut the generic mount in half - I used a pipe cutter - easiest if you have one..

On the Valentine mount I used a cut short toilet bolt - (very wide flat head) through the V1 mount plate with a nut on top and JB-Welded the whole thing back together under clamp pressure - works perfectly - not hard to do at all.
