G8RB8 had a separate thread aggregating auto trans resources/references.

There are also (other) experts with intimate knowledge of the trans' that haven't piped up on this thread.

I still don't get why there isn't rapid commerce in S3 valve bodies, I would think that installing in an S4 transmission, provided the diff ratio is the same, would accomplish the goal.

I can modify valve bodies for 1st gear starts.....however, I do not like to make this modification....this "beats" on the planetary pretty hard.

In the rare instances where you actually want/need a 1st gear start.....move the gearshift lever down to 2nd gear, when stopped. The car should start in 1st gear and remain in 1st gear. At redline....or when you want the car to shift, very quickly shift into 3rd gear and then immediately back into second gear. This takes some practice, but once mastered, is very easy.

This will allow the transmission to shift from 1st to 2nd gear.....and remain locked in 2nd gear.

Shift into 3rd gear, when you desire or at redline.

Shift into "drive" when the red lights from the cop watching you do all of this turns on his lights....you might not get a ticket for your too loud exhaust.

Keep in mind, that driving in this manner will also "beat" on the planetary pretty hard and may reveal any "wear" issues that you have in your existing transmission.
