Raced Your 928?
A simple poll,
How many members have raced their 928's?
Any race, whether it was a full bore rip across 4 city blocks or a simple thump of the throttle for a few seconds from a stoplight.
A simple yep or nope will do....
Be Honest

Your definition of "race" is too encompassing. I have certainly gone over the posted limit, but I have never raced against anyone on the street. Even the cops and insurance companies know the difference. They may give you a ticket and raise your premiums for speeding, but it may be jail-time and having your coverage dropped for racing on the streets. YMMV.

Years back, I had an 82 928s and logged some training time at Summit Point Raceway and did some "unofficial" racing with some other amateurs. Road course!!!,, now that's racing!!!IMHO if you haven't had your 928 on a sanctioned road course for at least some instruction, you're missing the thrill of a lifetime. If you think you have a high respect for your car now, wait until you've done that! You'll be grinning for weeks,, and oh yeah,,a bit of bragging too.
Just had my 80 928 at Milan Dragstip this week.
Ran 10 times for --ts & giggles. Not what the 928 was designed for, but it's fun. And it gets the cobwebs out of the cylinders including some in this old body of mine.
It was a test & tune night & not competition.
Best time was 13.1 @ 107.41 MPH.
Worst was 13.5 @ 106.91
The most notable competition were late model Firebirds & Mustangs. Of the 10 runs I lost one to an old 5.0 Mustang and one to a late model Firebird. Both of them were running nitrous.

Bernie,
I think your definition of "Race" is fine. But, I didn't see where you asked anyone to go out race and then respond. Thus asking people to break the law. I am sure you meant in the past correct Bernie?
Police and Insurance companies know the difference here too if they did read the question. They are not going to give you a ticket for saying you raced at 10pm on April 5th 1982 on Elm Street in Cleveland Ohio for 10 feet or a 1/4 mile.
Bernie, Before you ask another question like this, you might want to also attach a disclaimer saying you are not in any way trying to manipulate anyone into breaking any law in any shape or form. You might also want a Rennlist person to proof read it for you.

Dear Bernie, Ed, Dozman, Insurance Underwriters, Insurance Agents, Police of ALL Kinds, FBI, Dept of Nat'l Security, and all others.
Yes, I have raced my Porsche 928 on the public highways, country back roads, maybe even some local streets(depending on conditions, but what does it matter what I say. I broke the law!)
I plead guilty. But please show mercy!! I have succumbed to testosterone, own a Porsche 928 and have read and believe in "The Plaque".

I totally agree with Rob. Until you can get it on a sanctioned road course (or closed course) with some driver instruction under your belt you may never know what it feels like to hold a wide open throttle, stomp the brakes at 120 then go into a 4 wheel drift then WOT at the apex. Being able to keep the tach between 4 and 6 grand with tires screaming for 20 minutes at a clip is something that just can't (shouldn't) be done on public roads. It's as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. I'm lucky enough to be 80 miles from Watkins Glen. Helmet, fire extinguisher and 928 make for LOTS of fun on the track! Any more I save my really spirited driving impulses for the track. There is a degree of safety at the track that will never exist on public roads.

sure late into the night in the industrial parks, expressways where there is no such thing as a red light and when safety is when the local cop is asleep under the street sign or at the local donut shop

I highly recommend going to a race track. It eliminates many of the variables that could get you into trouble. You just can't push the edge on the street like you can on the track. Let's go for a ride:
<a href="http://www.jeepvideos.com/mpeg/030420sp-open.mpg" target="_blank">In-car video of an open lap at Sears Point (25 MB)</a>
<a href="http://www.jeepvideos.com/mpeg/030119th4-1.mpg" target="_blank">Working traffic at Thunderhill (89 MB)</a>
If any NorCal people are looking to start going to some driver's education events on a track, let me know. I can direct you to some safe groups with excellent instruction.

At some point when I get a life, I want to do the Silver State 100 and other races like that. I had a hankerin' to do that for some time. Either never had the money or the time. After reading about it again in the 928 Forum Mag. that thirts has been rekindled. I was recently reading the write up the PACNW928 group did at their last track attack in Spokane. Would very much like to participate in that as well. Until then my only recourse is sedate driving around western WA. Thing is some times the testosterone get the best of us all when a punk a$$ rice boy thinks he's cool a gonna beat the old shark. Do I condone that? No Do I think it happens? Well yes and will continue to happen as long as there are sports cars in the world.
