Easy. Sell the beater for whatever you can get, say $5k. Find as near-perfect 5sp as you can and buy that, for say $9k. That leaves $6k for fun. Wheels, suspension, exhaust....whoops it's gone.

I haven't read the posts in this thread so I don't know what the majority are thinking but this would be a good one to investigate and you would still have some cash left over for tinkering.

Hi Dan,
If you were closer, I'd help
DO NOT take it to just any mechanic, it will only get worse!
How many miles are on her? Do you know the history of your Shark?
Is there anyone in San Diego willing to help out Dan??

darien, i have less then 190,000. The body only has 1 small ding in the driver's door, could use a paint job. From what I hear the original owner drove it for a long time then the ECU went bad. then the last guy I bought it from replaced that and some relays and sold it to me.

darien the guy at the local hoby shop could help me in future repairs "once i get my car running I can take it over their" Its not the most stable person, I would have to find out which weekends he works on , etc. Other then that their is nobody that has experience on 928s.

I would sell this car take that $ plus the 10K and find a nicer car. If you realy must keep this car get a base line on the actual condition of the mechanics I.E. compression test and get it to atleast run W/ giving to much $ to the mechanic to chase down what might be wrong. This sounds like it could be a money pit and throwing $ at it W/ out knowing what is realy wrong will eat up your 10k very fast.

If I were thinking of spending the whole 10 on a car, and putting more money into it later, I would look for an 85-86 five speed. Nice cars. For over 8K I expect a lot out of a car. That would include pretty much everything working, and all good cosmetics except for maybe the driver's seat bolster.
