Nicole, where do you get your parts pricing info from? That sounds like full dealer markup pricing to me.
A new OEM radiator for a 1991 model can be had for around $400 dollars, depending on the number of cooling loops. This radiator can be used in most all model years that have independent oil cooling. I installed this in my '79 auto two years ago - no problems and cools better than the OEM radiator for that model year.
See radiators.com for one such source.
Is the DEVEK radiator twice as good?

Perhaps an equally valid question ? how old is the original Behr radiator in your car ? If it has decals / stickers it is no doubt the original . So who has the oldest original Behr Radiator ? They tend to last a long time and the tanks and seals are replaceable . The 93 GTS we had was the original Behr ...ten years old . So who has the oldest 928 Behr radiator? And no they are not glued together.

The factory rad in my car lasted over 12 years. The PO had it resealed and serviced before I bought the car.
I had it on the racetrack the other day. It did not run any warmer than it does putting through traffic, even with my foot to the floor for 20 mins at a time.
I personally would need a good reason to change.

I have a Devek Rad in the 81 that I am parting out. I will be puting it in my 89. Its actually getting some seapage at the core to side tank joints. This, I am sure, can be easily fixed when I have it out.
I will need all the cooling I can get.
I think its great that Devek attempts to find better parts designs for our cars. Behr doesn't make this rad for any other car right? How many times will you be able to rebuild the original with those tabs that need to be bent?

I have the Devek radiator and I believe mine may finally be leaking (fluffy coolant crust seems to be seeping from two areas, one on each side at the tanks). It's been in service for 3.5 years with me and I think 1 more year before that with the PO - lots of miles. I'm going to clean it off and watch for any more seepage. I hope I didn't clean away that last critical clod of sealing dirt!
Looking at the upper rubber mounts, they are really allowing lots of sloppy play with the intake tubes removed - I think the tubes are the main thing damping the radiator's movement. I've never really examined the install before to see how it was done. Maybe vibration has been a factor in my case. (BTW, I always run with the tubes on, FWIW.)
And if a leak is found at, say, at the tanks, can some more epoxy be flowed and grouted around that area to close it up?

By the way, Ed, Mark A. overheated this weekend at Willow (stock radiator), but he said it was probably the missing shroud not being there. Mark's single electric fan is mounted way over on the right side, so that makes sense.

Yo you need to give Susan a call at DEVEK and get one of those DEVEK radiators. They are the shiznet! And while you are at it get a DEVEK thermostat too. My 9-ball has never ran so cool. So start digging in your couches and your friends couches for some extra money and get one for this summer.

My 120K miles 1981 has a (single oil cooler) Behr with a gold high voltage sticker. It is in excellent shape.
I think it's cool (pun intended) that the radiators are unisex.
I plan to flip mine over, connect the engine oil cooler lines, and install an air/oil cooler with fan (along the flat section under the car on the pass side of the trans) for the auto-trans fluid.

Da Behrs. How 'bout dem Behrs?
I've got a 78, #0777. Original Behr. Dry as a bone.
'Course it's only got 40k miles.
The '84 is starting to weep a bit at the top passenger side. 97k miles.

Yes my car did overheat this weekend. I believe there were 2 resons for this;
1. no top or side shrouds (ran out of time). Since I have run at the same track in much hotter conditions I don't think the radiator was the problem.
2. I was having an oil scavange problem and the engine was filling up with 16 quarts of oil and not going to the oil tank. Having all this oil surronding the crank I'm sure was creating quite a drag and generating alot of heat.
We are having C&R radiator develope an all aluminum radiator that is welded together and not glued. It will use the proper metric size hose fittings so you will not have to rely on the hose clamp to clamp down to the smaller SAE size. If you have never heard of C&R I would check out their web site at http://www.crracing.com. They supply 85% of the Winston cup radiators as well as most upper ends of motorsports,

The 79 has the original radiator. I know it's days are numbered and watch it closely. I didn't just HEX myself did I?
