I'd like to replace my cat with an x-pipe and eliminate the air pump and related junk. But I still need to pass emissions testing. Before I take that leap, I thought I would disconnect the belt to the air pump and see if the car could still pass. Well, it passed yesterday quite easily. At this point, is the cat doing much without the air pump connected? If the car passes easily without the pump, am I safe to assume removing the cat now will not make enough of a difference to result in a fail?

The air pump is just there to make the old style cats fire off earlier. This makes the car run cleaner sooner than it normally would. The new style cats I had made for our crossovers do not require an air pump. The reason you passed without the air pump connected is that you had to drive far enough to get the cats hot, they were functioning as they were supposed to. If you removed the cats you may not pass.

Hey Glenn, if you wanted to come over I have my gas analyzer now and can read what you are getting before and after the cats to see if there is much of a difference.

Thanks, guys!
Colin, my insurance is expired now, so its down for the winter maintenance cycle. But if you want to bring the analyzer over when we do my MM/opg, I wouldn't object.....![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Glen,
I have Devek L2 headers to an Ott X, no cats, no airpump and 2 1/2 exhaust all the way back on my 90GT with 147k and I passed Oregon DEQ no problem. They did away witht he rollers last year so it's just a pipe up the exhaust type of test.
Good luck!
Jim
