Default sunroof removal question

I have most items removed around the sunroof.
Looks like it needs to be cut on the sides and somewhere in the rear.
How difficult is this?
Has someone made a write up?

Yes... please share if you've been down that road... I'd also like to know. Has anyone graphed in a full OEM Porsche non-sun roof panel, saw it listed in the body section of the 928 parts list on-line. Or, did you just fab up your own panel and weld in?

others here have grafted on the non sunroof roof. the roof is held on with spot rivets which you will need to drill out.

Constatine is the expert on sunroof removal. I did remove mine - cutting wheel, googles and a little patience. Per Constatines' suggestions and to comply with the SCCA - I used an aluminum alloy as a replacement - 1" larger than the sunroof hole. Then evenly spaced my holes about 1" apart - (This is not necessary - I think Constatine just wanted to see if I would do it - he likes the aircraft look) - drilled and countersunk my holes, taped the piece on the roof - drilled my holes through the roof. Bead of silicon around the edge - and used a combination of screws/nuts and bolts to secure.

Then there's the Constatine work of art - where he used carbon fiber flush with the roof..

From what I've seen the non-sunroof panel is no longer available through Porsche so a you would have to probably remove the panel from a junked car. I had a local hot rodder make me a new sunroof insert and had him weld it in. We initially thought of welding in the one that comes with the car, but once you remove the weatherstripping and actually see the gap between the roofpanels he decided it would be quicker to make a new one and weld that in. Bringing this thread back up from the depths, what is the approximate gain in headroom by taking out the whole sunroof assembly? Also, are non-sunroof headliners still available from parts sources (S4 vintage)?

Thanks,
-Mirror

there is a fair chunk of weight to be lost from this, and about 2" of head room.
The sunroof piece itself is VERY heavy.
