car will not start after re enstalling intake manifold
Hi i took off my intake manifold a while ago. I reninstalled it today, charged the battery and my car will not start. The fuel injectors are connected, the isv is connected, the eletrical sensors for the maf are connected. I really don't know why it will not start.
You are going to need to provide a little more information. Is the car cranking but not firing? Is there fuel pressure? Is there spark? What year? Et cetera.
it is an 88 porsche 928. I here the engine cranking. I am not sure how to check the fuel pressure. I don't here any combustion. I don't here it trying to start. I only here it crank.
Remove one of the spark plugs and hold it against the engine while it's plugged in. Have someone crank the engine and see if there is a spark. Do not hold it near the spark plug hole in the cylinder head. Or, you could put a timing light on one of the plug wires. If you can measure the timing while cranking, then there is spark.
I had the same problem with my 88 after reinstalling my intake. It turned out to be a shorted wire on my injector harness. Just something to check, it ended up that while only one had actually shorted 7 of the 8 needed to have the ends replaced. If the wires have shorted the car will not start.
Actually be sure noone is "holding" the plug while trying to start the car otherwise they will RIP. Just let it lay against a ground and you should see the spark. Don't let it touch the ground, 2-5 mm is fine.
Use a timing light to check for spark. If you have spark, pull one plug and look to see if the plug is wet or dry. Let us know what you find so we can help.
i pulled out the spark plug and tried starting it and i did not see a spark, the battery is starting to die again because I kept trying to start the car. Before It did not start I saw fuel leaking out of the rail and then i tightened it and it stopped. So I am assuming their is fuel pressure. What is I buy another battery and it does not spark? What would be the problem?

IMPORTANT - I Agree - the 928's ignition system generates very high voltage & high energy outputs it can easily deliver a FATAL shock - do not mess with the business end of the spark system while the car is running or cranking.
If you must check with a plug out use a spare plug - to keep the hole filled - ground the plug with a booster cable or similar - DO NOT HOLD IT!
Not sure what you mean by the wire was dry - if you mean the plug then I wonder if you had a good ground for the plug - lack of ground can lead to a no spark perception when that is not the case. A dry spark plug would indicate no fuel.
Generally I would say to bypass the three critical relays to eliminate these as potential problem areas for either spark or fuel.
Charge the battery so you get full voltage (low voltage creates problems besides lack of cranking speed).
Go to the auto zone and get a spark tester about $8.00 hook yhe plug wire to it and you will see if it has spark. I agree on the inj harness issue same thing happened to me. Once the inj are removed the boot under the wireing harness can conceal shorted wires. It only takes one Inj wire to short it takes the whole thing down.
i will get the spark tester, lets say in the future I bought a new fully charged battery and tried the spark tester and their still was no spark. What would be the problem?
