I don't want to jinx myself but after 5 years of ownership, the porsche gods finally smile upon me! This is the first year I made it from May to October without any maintenance or major problems. I was actually able to ENJOY my Porsche 928 for a whole summer and NO OIL LEAKS!!! It's been a lot fun to drive especially knowing I wasn't leaving a pond of oil everywhere I go and the underneath of my CAR is clean!!

Anyway, here's my Poll question, what's the longest you have been able to drive your 928 without an incident causing you not drive her? (This doesn't include normal maintenance, racers, etc..us normal folk only!! )

The key is to acquire, perform surgery and take preventive measures at the start. You will then have a car that will run for a very very long time giving much enjoyment and reliability. I know this first hand.

Now with open heart surgery well underway... I hope to fix and prevent all future leaks and issues.

My car went for two years straight without any maintenance at all!
Oh, wait a minute, that was because I wasn't driving it........

Now that I have it on the road again, the to-do list is getting long again. These cars simply require a lot of care if you want to drive 'em lots. Here is my to-do list right now:

1) Go after oil leak (possibly cam-cover on driverside which I had fixed before I parked it.............ugh!
2) Sticky oil pressure and volt gage
3) Recover old Recaros in new leather
4) Finish the damn stereo install
5) Clean out wheel wells and paint the rotors (gettin' rusty looking)
6) Repair rear hatch auto release (spins but does not release)
7) Repair sunroof (was working perfectly before now sticks)
8) Repair power mirrors (sticky as well)
9) Install progressive fanspeed controller (I have S4 electrics)

Most of these issues are from the car sitting so long. Actually, ny list looks pretty tame compared to some I imagine. Now the vanity items are as follows:

1) Full bodywork / paintjob
2) Replace cracked dash and pod
3) RMB
4) New auto shift ****
5) Gage rings

Hmmmm, not bad outside of the paintjob!

Does a bad relay preventing start up in the garage count? My '85 was down a day or two until I remedied it (with rennlist help of course).

Other then that it was all good for 1.5 yrs (until I sold it, would have been longer I'm sure).

I was originally at 2+ years, but the odds caught up with me. I'm at 2 months now since the last major repair.

This year has been good to me. Only a R134 recharge. Oh, I did just replace the windshield today. Got the Windshield Expo deal from Sharktoberfest. Had to drive a ways to pick it up and get it installed, but no real downtime. Got about 5 hours of seattime and over 20 mpg!!!

Since maintenence does not count......the only "down time" my shark has had was when the fuel pump went out this year.....so I made almost 3 years....

I can't vote because in the 1 1/2 years I have had my car it has been apart one way or another almost constantly - but then it was bought to be a "project" car.
