What alloy are the front fenders made from?

Does any body know what the alloy of the front fenders are?
Or, more to the point, what alloy should I use for a patch panels when doing a marker light delete?

Got any suggestions on what thickness to use?

Just make sure that you don't have a state inspection where you live.

The "Project 928" book mentions the choice of the alloy type used for the fenders and doors, but doesn't give the type numbers.

It states that a "hard" alloy was to be used originally for the fenders (one with some copper content) but due to production problems this was changed to the same type of "soft" alloy as also used for the doors.

Ah, I see. I thought that question seemed too easy.

Uh... why? It's an ambiguous Federal law, not a state law. Quite a few 928s do not have marker lights.

Greg, my welder used a "4043" filler rod. It seemed to work nicely.

IF I was to make a guess I would say 2024 T3
7075 T6 would not form to the conture of the fender as well.
6061 T6 would also be to hard
They could have formed the fenders in "O" condition and then heat treat to the desired hardness. But I don't think so.

I have some of that rod so I have that covered.

This is the kind of information I am looking for, now to figure out the gauge and get going on this.
