Default Steering wheel rubbing pod

I just replaced the stock wheel with a Momo and the hub adapter is rubbing against the front of the pod. If I pull on the wheel, the whole column pulls out about 1/8" and feels slightly spring loaded. Doing this eliminates all rubbing and noises. The wheel/shaft has no looseness other than pulling straight out. Raising and lowering the pod has no effect.

Is a bearing/bushing worn, is the rubber isolation bushing (928 347 093 00) failing, or is this normal?

Dog,

You need to replace the column sleeve and bearing. Chris Ford does a good write up on this here

Mine did the same after I put the Momo hub and wheel on. Swapping out the sleeve and bearing cured the problem.

Good luck!

I was hoping it wasn't that. I guess I finally have an excuse to pull the pod and fix the grounding problems.

Not that bad really and the parts are relatively cheap. It was a 2 person job for me. Pull the c-clip to release the sleeve and tap the bearing out toward you with a small mallet and screwdriver. To put back in, place bearing in place and you have to pull on the steering shaft toward you (easier to put the steering wheel nut on and thread a few times to have something to grab on to) while the second person puts the c-clip back into place. DONE.

Mine rubs too. What kind of shop would typically be able to machine the hub for me? Just look for machine shops in my area?

I had this problem too. Very annoying. You never realize how many tiny corrections you make as you drive until you have this noise. I ended up putting back the stock wheel.

A thin washer/bushing would probably fix the problem.

after fitting the new hub make sure that you check the TS depth against the back of the hub, the TS can be adjusted in or out to fit, you want a lite pressure on the horn ring. IE dont smash the hub into the brass spring it will shear it off or wear it off

I had this problem on the 944 and my 928. On the 944 I was able to file down the actual steering column cover, on the 928 I made a very small spacer (bushing).
Funny how everyone has this problem tho
