Post Rear Shoulder Belt

I have a 79. It only has a lap belt in the back. It's OK now because the child seat I use has a built in shoulder strap and I have firmly secured the child seat.

The question is, where/how/can I add a shoulder belt to the rear seat of a 79? In a few nmonths, the "little one" will finaly be able to dump the baby seat, but I cannot (by law) and will not (I am her daddy after all) put her in the back without a shoulder belt.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Steve

Bradsters,
Good to see somebody starting their young ones on sharks early, and safely.
I too am looking at these for inspection reasons. PET lists:-
927 803 021 02 Rear Lap/Sash belt - non rectract?
927 803 021 03 Rear lap/Sash belt - Retract LH
927 803 022 03 RH

I am told there is a shoulder belt fixing point under the rear quarter cover, and it can be found by careful searching for a hole in the base, and verified with a fine needle before putting a hole through the covering. I hope so, mine is leather.
I have a query out to Mr928 to see if they know the part numbers, and the fixing point. I will post the result if/when I get a response.

Cool

Steve,
which child seat are you using? I bought two so far and they fit just fine in the Mercedes, but I can't even get them behind the front seats in the 928.
regards,
Sab.

Bradsters,

This guy :- Mick Phillips [mick@porscha.co.uk]
has a pair of used rear lap/shoulder retracts, asking 100GBP (~$150) - no good to me as not listed as Oz std - only problem is they're in UK. Tlak to him if no luck in US.
No response from Mr928 yet.

I am using the Century 1000 STE. It is the only one I know of that can use just the lap belt.

Don't know when they started w/ this, but mine ('90 MY) also has the rear seat tether anchor point for child seats (inboard of the shock absorber mount). I haven't looked to see how hard it would be to drill through to retro-add one, but may be worth a thought.
I am looking for booster seats (have twins) that will fit in there, as I have been unsuccessful finding seats that squeeze in. Good luck

928 intnl has lap/shoulder belts used at $50. I believe the factory belts have something to help keep the rear fixing tidy, up off the rear floor or something. Also door intrusion bars, which didnt come in all MYs, and I will need a pair to pass inspection in Oz.

So as of MY88 3 point rear belts were fitted, at least in the US.

My wife was less than impressed with the lap belts on my 87, especially as the 91 has the 3 point.

On the 87 the mounting point on the rear hatch is there, there is even a hole in the rear quarter panel its just covered over with vinyl.

So the 87 now has 3 pointers too, make sure you get all the fixings with the belts. As someone else posted the 928intl package seems like a deal.

HI,

I had same issue with my 88S4 euro - bought a set of rear belts from a specialist dismantlers (Douglas Valley Breakers - they do have a website) here in UK - £30 for set as opposed to £120 per side ex-dealer! Be aware that special spacers and seatbelt bolts are required in rear 1/4 panel and floor mount - luckily these are reasonably standard sized so spacers from another (cheaper!) wreck will do (mine came out of my '64 Bond Equipe....).

Hope this helps..............Andy
